We are deep into planning an epic shoot with the new F16. Jeremy, Chandler and I are going to create a light painted image of the aircraft in one of the big hangars at The JRB. I had this idea for "Spirit One" a few years ago but never did it. I'm waking up in the middle of the night now thinking about how to do it, and coming up with new ideas. The Air Force has given us carte blanche and that's dangerous when you team Boydo, me and Chandler up on something like this. I can hardly wait for this all nighter!...Show more →
So are we Jim!!!! Get those photos posted!

2 days Well the guys in white are called the eagles and eagles have wings plus some bodies were flying...loving the 7D II. Defense won the game for the home field guys in blue, thus the abundance of defensive photos.
Just got home from three days with the Fighting 457th at The JRB Fort Worth. Exhausting, but a rare opportunity and a lot of fun with Jeremy and Chandler. I pushed the R5 to it's outer limits for three solid days and it performed beyond my expectations. Still some quirks to get used to with the EVF, but it is an incredible tool, all the way up to ISO 12,800.
Thank you Jim. I made some changes to my 7D II auto focus and I am amazed at the improvement! I have never had as many keepers as I did Friday night! The editor asks for 5-6 photos, I pondered many minutes over paring down 8 photos. I sent him 7. I have a feeling they will be used...

I'm not sure that there is another camera in existence that would have performed like this last night. ISO 12,800 @125th of a second.............................
Great, also good to see that Jeremy and his friend Scott from Bullseye Model Aviation are converting the art work into a decal sheet for the modellers out there....
Here's and interesting comparison that somewhat compromises the statement I made about the R5's capabilities. This was captured by Chandler with the 1DXIII at ISO 16000. Chandler chose a shutter speed of 100th for this exposure and his pan, as usual, was dead on. This is a pretty dead on comparison and I would conclude that the AF on the III is incredibly fast and accurate (I already knew that), but it appears that the noise level is less with the III and the exposure looks very similar at a much lower ISO. We were both shooting 100-400 and 100-500 f4.6-5.6 lenses. Make of that what you will, and of course R5 the file size is almost 3 times the size of the III. The III rendered the afterburner better too.

I can't recall the number of times I did EOR (end of runway inspection prior to take off) at night and sat in the truck just to watch the A/Bs light up and hear the noise...then wish I had a camera. (The crew chief who launched the first jet got in a truck to do EOR, then pick up the #2 guy.). Only, back then, ISO 400 wouldn't capture what you guys got. Wonderful photos for an old crew chief to see.
I know it is not USAF...but, it is my only night time A/B shot...
