Good grief, Douglas, ya gotta give me a head's up when you're up this way again. Four hours round trip deserves a hot meal and a night's stay here with us. When "happy days are here again," you, Danbp, and I (and Fred Amico, if we can get him here from LA area) will head to the really good cheese steak emporia in town - on me.
Oh, and as the thread on rangefinder forum announces itself: "Sharpness is a bourgoise concept" (or something like that).
Thanks my brother(s)!!!! Douglas and I were already for an outing when the CV-19 hit us!!!!! Who knows now when the area will be opened!

Thank you Anthony! If you ever come down the Baltimore/DC area, I would love to buy you and Dan a dinner to thank you both for your service. BTW, I just finished a book called "Miracle at Midway". It's a very comprehensive record of the battle, at times too many details from both sides. It's a great history book but not one I will likely read again. On the other hand, I have read Eugene Sledge's "With the Old Breed" and "The Last Stand of Fox Company" by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin several times, and will read them again. Hope the Rolling Thunder protest in DC will still take place this year. ...Show more →
Thanks my brother! I will be ready when it happens!!!! My father(Navy) was at Midway, Guadalcanal ( all the Solomon Is) and the S. Pacific for WWII. My mother(Navy) was stationed here at Bethesda Naval Medical Center which is now part of the Walter Reed Medical Complex. They met and got married here. Moved back to Iowa(my dad's home) he finished his degree in Pharmacy(Ph.D) was Steve Allen's roommate for a year, had me( ) and then we moved to central west Iowa.

Study just getting published today shows an alarming trend of people in their 30's-40's with Covid-19, who weren't otherwise susceptible, are having strokes. (seven times more) and clotting causing other organ troubles too.
I don't think warmer weather is going to make it go away if it's wreaking the same sort of havoc in the southern hemisphere.
And if you want people to mask up... maybe they should lead by example? Once the carriers come into the station, if I have to go near them to distribute the mail I've sorted, I put my mask on, and they have theirs on.
Quote of the day:
"Mayo Clinic had informed @VP of the masking policy prior to his arrival."
-- The Mayo Clinic in a tweet that was later deleted.
He should have had a mask on being in a medical facility, Period.
Also, people everywhere need to learn how to properly wear their masks. It doesn't do any good if the mask is just covering your chin, you don't have all the straps secured, or if you just have your mouth covered and your nostrils are hanging out...
wash your reusable mask daily.
I'm not going to die or become severely ill, just to save the economy. A second wave will destroy it.

Tim will tell, but with a mortality rate of .003 and CDC protocol, we should be in a better position to deal with what comes. Delicate dance between destroying the best economy in history (already largely accomplished!), and people's health, we have to do something.
Certainly shouldn't be taken lightly, and VP Pence most certainly should have masked up, I don't understand that whole thing. That being said, I have no idea what to believe anymore between the media and the progressives taking full advantage of this mess, the average citizen is left to try to sort truths from untruths. Yes, we are circling the drain and a second wave would clinch it, and there are factions at work that would be only too pleased for that to happen between now and November.
I guess the best advice I can think of is....."Y'All be careful out there!"
Just saw this official picture from the Blue Angels of their flyover yesterday. Very surprised they used a Sony A7RII (AF is slow on that body, 2 generations ago). I understand if they fly next to each other at the same speed, good AF may not be necessary. But the fact they even used that camera surprised me. I guess what's behind the camera is far more important than the camera.
Thanks for sharing that capture! AF is almost more important in those scenarios than our typical ones. I can remember the old days when AF was not nearly as quick and accurate as it is today, in air to air I could see the AF hunting around between a canopy corner, an intake, a leading edge. You don't see it from the ground perspective but this jets are moving all over the place in the mid day air and their own jet wash. Camera wise what you observed is something that I've noticed for years, the military photographers are several generations behind in equipment, budget issues I'm sure. Last year I had a lengthy discussion with The Blue Angels videography team, they were drooling over the gear I was using. They are using the Sony Z-150, a great camera but several generations behind the curve now and in some pretty significant areas. The stabilizing rig they were using was two levels below the one that I ended up getting and we aren't talking huge bucks here, maybe $400 difference and the top of the line version would make their task much easier on their bodies. One would think a group who spends 25 grand on a toilet seat wouldn't wince at state of the art photo gear, but that's clearly not the case. They should have had you up there in that Photo Ship..............
My 600 III demo lens arrived a few minutes ago. I picked the box up and moved it to my workbench for unboxing, I was surprised by the lightness. my 600 I weighed just a little less than my Landcruiser, this one feels like a feather in comparison. Now to find something worthy of it.

Well, based on my military experience, the best way to get appropriate behavior is to set a good example. Nobody takes things seriously if they see you not taking it seriously. And Pence failed miserably here.

Jim, I am SO flattered! . For occasions like that they should have Mr. Glen Watson or someone in his caliber.

Right you are Rob, why the whole task force hasn't masked up as this thing progressed makes no sense to me, but I'm just a photographer
Geez, I just went to Lowe's to get a couple of sprinkler heads and connections, I felt like I was in the TSA line. Not that it's not necessary, I was just questioning how much I needed to fix my sprinkler system by the time I got through the ordeal. I'm going to the hangar where things are simple...............
"...Not going to get sick "just" to save the economy..."
Tell that to my nephew and his wife. She's medical personal, and he's and electrician, both jobs are gone. They are very close to filing bankruptcy, their daughter is quitting college to help out....if she can get a job.
My wife's best friend is out if work. The small business she worked for is about two weeks from being history, can't seem to get the same loan help that the LA Lakers got.
This is going to have long lasting, severe consequences for years to come...and how is our health going to be if 30% of us are living in cardboard boxes under the bridge?
So true Zane, the cold hard facts. I know that everyone has deer in the headlights syndrome at the moment, but you are exactly right, the financial carnage from this tragedy is inconceiveable. Like 9/11 (only on a massive scale) we cannot even begin to imagine how things going forward will change. Guys our age will certainly not see this great country dig out of this one, and quite possibly no one will. Unthinkable to be in the strongest economy in history one day and be stopped dead in your tracks the next, sadly unfair is all that comes to mind at the moment. I believe that God has this and His Plan will not be thwarted, best to do what He's always asked .............Trust Him.
I photographed this Challenger about two weeks ago at night, at Dallas Love Field. We had to taxi the jet from the east side of Love Field to the west side, and I got to sit in the cockpit and I took videos of the taxi over and back, with my iPhone. To me, as a non-pilot, it was so awesome, to get the "pilot's view", up front.
