Also nice to see a modern / old skool sticks and strings crane.
Nick,
If cranes interest you, below is a link to a thread on a R/C Modeling forum I frequent. The thread is documenting a build of a Radio Controlled 1:8.5 Scale Manitowoc 18000 Lift Crane.
Following 3 years of information gathering and design, he started construction almost 7 years ago, and is still working on it. At (if I converted the measurements right) 36 ft tall, this is no small project.
That will make more sense to you when you see the final product. Everything has gone to prefab panels and tilt wall fabrication these days, the cost is so much lower. Even churches, once architectural masterpieces, are now just concrete tilt wall pre-fab boxes. Gone are the stirring environments that embody Europe's worship sites. I get it, it's not about the building, but somehow the incredible architecture and sense of place always enhanced the "Presence" in my mind, but I'm obviously a visual guy. Don't get me wrong, my eyes fill with tears when I stand at the edge of the Grand Canyon because of His obvious Presence, but great church architecture always touched me growing up. Anyway, I digress, those panels will be lit in the recesses and what appears now to be another bland structure should be pretty cool in it's final form. A side not, for some reason that site is bereft with interference, all manner of weirdness takes place every time I fly that location and I can't figure it out.
Been dealing with the ever present gremlins lurking in file storage and back up. Just when you think you have it all lined out, kaboom! My 16 Bay QNAP Array is apparently toast. Four hours with their tech people this week availed nothing and I've grown weary of that route so I unplugged it all this morning and am pulling the drives so I can test them. Just ordered an OWC Thunderbay 8 enclosure which will eclipse the QNAP's capacity by a considerable margin when it's loaded with 18TB drives. While I'm at it I'm taking all of my Drobo units offline and storing them, OWC Thunderbays will be my back up system from here on out, they have proven very trustworthy and being a distributor for them helps a little.
I guess, in retrospect, the QNAP units have been running for a decade 24/7 so they really don't owe me anything. I've been thinking about removing all my data from wifi access anyway with the explosion of mal-ware/ransomeware. Keeping all this data safe is a involves considerable investment both in time and financially and most photographers don't do it, but I have always felt like I have an obligation to preserve my client's investment, maybe that's crazy.
Mine's all in hangars and airplanes, which in retrospect wasn't a bad idea. While I think we get the idea that none of this is good, I don't think we really have a clue how far reaching the effects of it are going to be going forward. We are a long way from being on the back side of the health portion and I'm afraid we'll never see the backside of the financial portion. Nothing like going from the greatest economy in th history of our country to dead stopped in a matter of a few weeks.

very wise decision I only use wifi to surf and look at fb for the rest I use the 4G network or my cabled connection.
going to go for another flight in my DCS P51 got the taking off part without help functions under control now it's on to landing without damage....
I love the old UK and European churches. I am very happy I got to explore Notre Dame before the fire. While I am impressed with the flying buttresses with the external architecture, the interiors amaze me the most! Simply stunning and reverent.

Thank for the link Ken. 36 ft tall….. I can’t remember who it was, but a very wise sage once said “ any model bigger than it’s creator is not a model – it’s actually a monument”.

Cool. Given the construction method, I'm seeing the recess lighting offering some potential. So .... dead of night - no moon - lights off - stacked pics of the stars. Lights on forground pic of the building. Mask and blend. Factory by star light. Ok, no need to move - I'll see myself out.

You've been on the QNAPs for ten years? ..... I'm feeling very old right now.
It's easy to get goosebumps when seeing some of the churches in Europe. I have yet to get the same feeling anywhere here at home in the US. This is St Peter and Paul Muenster in Obermarchtal, Germany.
