The quest continues ……. Urban nightscapes and the battle with light pollution. Some time I will go out at dark o’clock when the minor road lights are out and see if things are any better. In the meantime I will resort to B&W ….. and keep scouting locations. This is fun!
Playing with LR and attempting an HDR of the Historic Houghton-Hancock Bridge in the UP of MI. Was a bit cloudy and struggling for good light but got to try to learn.
Nice capture Dan! I don't think there is anything much more that you could have done in that instance. If you had the luxury of timing you could have chosen to shoot that when there was a little twilight left in the sky, the moving clouds actually helped you because there is something in the sky to contrast with the bridge. You color correction looks good. How did you set that shot up, "M"? ISO? Was that with your 1DXII?
You could crop some sky and make it more of a panoramic crop, but I don't find it to be unbalanced as is.
Funny how the mind works. I often run through my next assignment multiple times in my sleep so nothing new there, but last night my imagination conjured up a very complex assignment and I spent most of the night ironing out the wrinkles. I planned and organized right up until my eyes opened at 7 this morning, at which point I realized that there was no assignment. I guess my mind is trained to be working through something, even if there isn't really anything to work through.
No surprise here I'm sure, I don't seem to do "pause" very well..................
One exposure …. ha, in my dreams! Actually more like 20. 10 for the stars – high ISO – lens wide open – exposure short (ish) – focus on infinity. Put those through Sequator for noise reduction and fixing the stars. Other 10 (ish) are light painting of the foreground – lower ISO - lens stopped down a little – same exposure – focus on the fence post. Load into PS and mask plus blend layers using Lighten mode. Full details here.

ps Your C in C says to use the blend mode in PS – NOT the blender in the kitchen – OK?

Wow! Sorry, didn't mean to minimize your effort That is a boatload of work, great job!
Yes, I’m trying to streamline my set up time in the field. So far I’ve managed to do 5 in about 2.5 hrs – then I’m worn out and have to go home. The time with the computer is my own so is no great problem.
BTW I happened to stumble across TEXAS BARNDOMINIUM ….. I had no idea!
In other news, Thea and I went out today to get some much needed exercise, and I took the opportunity to do some location scouting at our local castle – as you do.
Didn't I mention Jennifer and the kid's "happy place"? Pretty labor intensive for a spot where you go, ostensibly, to chill out, but they love it and spend a great deal of time there. Perfect spot for 'social distancing", even before it became a thing.

Yes you did mention the "happy place". When I stumbled upon barndominium there was a loud clang as the penny dropped.
Love the snowmobile pics on the pond! Where is that taken?
Back when I was a "Pup", like 1986 or so I went to college with a wonderful person named Gina Macki, and at that time her brother Mark held the world record for distance on the water with a snowmobile; some 61 miles on a closed course before he ran out of Gas. Gina and her family were from a small town in Wisconsin, Grantsburg I believe. Gina's was without a snowmobile one year because her's was at the bottom of the family pond! The float tethered to the sled for retrieval didn't pop up until the next spring.......... Lost track of Gina after college but know that her Brother has been inducted into the Snowmobile Hall of fame.
Thanks for the photo's and bringing back old memories,
Dan
It is just getting more serious than before, please follow all medical procedures and stay safe at home. It is spreading like a crazy wild fire, and the number one cause is Ignorance and Recklessness
