I hate to break it to you guys .... but after you get in a healthy dose of landscape photography, you will get bored with it as well. Especially when you see "your shot" has been done thousands (or more) times before.
Still haven't put my 1DXIII to work yet, but I've been reading a lot about it and going through the menu's. My cinematography arsenal is pretty substantial at this point, but I can see how the 1DXIII might fit in as a very capable tool in certain instances. The autofocus system is beyond compare, with in still and video modes. The focus pulling character of the III is pretty spectacular, smooth as velvet.
Might know where to fine a few of those pics. Dragged them from some old Photon Box I got from an old guy that sure ain't tired yet! Camera works fantastic, low light is beyond anything I have shot and that auto-focus works pretty well too (okay, fantastic) when you remember to use the Back Button AF; learning that new technique, old to most of you but new to me and not yet muscle memory!
Every year during the 1st or 2nd week of March the Society of Automotive engineers holds a Collegiate competition for building better, more efficient snowmobile power pack (engine and drive assembly). We (a host of industry experts and volunteers) work with the students from 20-25 universities to judge their efforts for the year. My focus is to teach the students value of created product through a MSRP exercise and meet with each team to mentor them on engine/fuel system development. It's fun to give back to the students through all the experience learned in industry over the last 30 years or so. Most important is the relationships it has built over the years and I have learned much from the students as well.
I and a good friend of over 25 years also do photography for the students during the events. We give the students the photos to use for their marketing efforts, school presentations, memories, and just to share with their friends the experience. I have done the event for 15 yrs, last week was my 16th time in attendance. Bill my good friend and other shooter has been helping us out since 2014 and is 72 yrs young; and continues to school me on photography. What he has captured shooting Indy car still amazes me all these years later.
Well done Dan! You and the MKII are a great match!! Better put a sharpness warning on anything you post.......... I'd zap that sign from your first image in your first post, the one peeking in on the right. I think that's my favorite image, although I really love them all!
And don't let the fact that the II isn't a 50MP sensor deter you from big prints, those files will hold together very nicely up to 40" and beyond, especially given the fact you shot them so well.
No air shows for me as I doubt Shaw Thunderbirds on May 16 will happen one day after May 15, where the U.S. Air Force suspension is through now. Enjoy these shots I took of the Drake Wood Duck chilling.

I guess I worked on so many 'gray' aircraft in my life I am immune to the color; there are simply different shades of gray. These days I don't get to run engines or sit under an engine trimming the afterburner fuel control with flames coming out the back, so I will settle for listening to the roars as they fly around the field at an airshow to bring back the memories. I can tell you there is nothing more powerful than sitting under an engine running in afterburner or under a large turbofan with the thrust reversers deployed vibrating your body. Life was good then.
Like the crop better! They were off about 1/4 mile in the distance when I took that photo and had already removed a fair amount of foreground but your crop shows even bunch more was needed to bring the sleds in as a focal point. Still have lots to learn about photography; as I have always said it only takes a minute to find the shutter button but a life time to perfect the art.
One from last season. Suspect we'll be seeing a lot of "revisits" for a while. Oh, the computer shop called and told me to come get baby. So, I'm back in business.
Looks like this year is a year without air shows just saw the message that also The International Airtattoo is canceled because of the covid 19 virus....
Sorry to hear that, Jan-Arie. Hopefully not all the Duxford events will go the same way. I see Le Mans has been postponed until September – here's hoping.
Since we have been / are, in a reflective frame of mind, I thought I’d offer this.
