The day before is when Kevin first saw us in the grass midfield and began flying his routine for the lens. Adam Baker knew I was there and we captured some spectacular images of him as well.

Dear Anwar,

Sorry that I missed your call today, still running in full afterburner. Mother and baby are home as of an hour ago and, theoretically, Sheila and I should be slowing down a bit. Yesterday, amidst watching James and Tatum, ducking up to the hospital for a quick photo op, I finished editing 1800 still images for a project that was due. No complaints but James is glued to me from the minute he walks in the door, so everything I do from that point on is with him in one arm or closely in trail.Like I said, no complaints,

Over the past month I've been working on a Fort Worth Alliance 2019 highlight film, finished it up late last night after everyone was sound asleep. There are numerous things I want to do differently, better, going forward, but I'm pretty pleased with the end product. My good friend, whose air show it is, had a one word response this morning, "Outstanding!", so I guess I'm on the right track Mike B. liked it as well so given those two valued opinions, I'm going to stick with it for awhile more and see what happens.

Very cool stuff Jim! Loved seeing the rotor plane respond to control inputs on the V-280. Being so close to the runway centerline definitely gives a unique viewing angle. Do you have more of the Blues boss radio calls recorded? I'd love to hear more of them during the performance, to help emphasize there really are people working hard to put on the amazing show.

Thanks Erich, I don't have any additional radio transmissions from The Blues, but next year I an going to plum my Zoom6 into an hairband radio so I will have it all. That will be Thunderbirds of course. The Blues videographer and I talked quite a bit, oddly the y don't have my budget for equipment....................but from our conversations I began to research VariZoom stabilizers and ordered their top of the line "Ultimate Pro Rig this afternoon. I think it will be a very useful tool and save my back, knees and feet as a side benefit.

Cinematography, the other thing I was never going to do, is a market that is blowing up for me so I'm going to hit it hard in 2020 and see where it leads. At the very least i plan on capturing a large 4K stock library for my iStock account.

"Moments", right your are Anwar! Today Chandler and I added a few to our logbooks. We were planning an early departure for The Legend factory in Sulphur Springs to drop off the Cub for a few upgrades and an annual. A wall of fog met us at HQ and KSLR was reporting 400 and an 1/8th. We sat down and I went through all the diagnostics one does when confronted with a temperature/dewpoint spread like we had this morning. We analyzed Foreflight, and several weather programs and when McKinney lifted out of IFR conditions we made our plan. Launching out for KSLR we tracked along a solid wall of fog and mist, but with all kinds of escape routes to the south and back west from whence we came. We watched the horizon constantly calculating whether KSLR was going to be attainable with a safe margin. All of a sudden I spotted this huge raptor with a bright white head and tail, I pointed him out to Chandler and we watched him orbit effortlessly as we flew above him, that was a moment. 15 miles out from KSLR it became obvious that all our calculating and the prog charts were correct, we were going to make it just fine. We landed on the grass at the factory, hopped out of 7PC and were met by my good friend and designer of the Legend Cub, Darin Hart. Darin had a brand new Cub, right off of the assembly line ready for us as a loaner while 7PC is in getting tweaked. Home we flew and now we've got the latest and greatest Legend to explore with for a few weeks. A fun day for sure!

p.399 #10 · Mustang Air to Air: The Sequel

Good Morning/Afternoon Jan Arie,

Thanks! Funny, this aircraft flies much differently compared to mine, you sit higher, the stick is s-curved and shorter and there are no steam gauges it's all glass. Even with 4,000 hours of conventional gear time I kind of feel like I'm walking on eggshells in a new airplane. They are installing the Catto prop on 7PC while it's at the factory and if this aircraft is any indication, the Cub becomes a VTOL utilizing that prop. Chandler, who everyone knows is a quiet soul, was gobsmacked on takeoff yesterday. I lined up on the beginning of the numbers, advanced the throttle and we levitated before we ran by the far end of the numbers. Same 0-200 Continental as mine so it has to be the Catto prop. I always liked the nostalgic look of my wood prop but it's about as efficient as a 2x6 so I felt that it was time for a change. Bryan Martin and I used to play when things were slow in the tower at KTKI, and I'd see how short a distance I could take off and land, Bryan would watch from the tower and gauge how many feet were involved. Full fuel, no wind with just me on board, I think my personal best was a take off roll of 175', just shy of the distance between runway lights. I'm going to go out late this afternoon and see what this new Cub actually does, but based on yesterday I have to believe it will be less than 30'. That was full fuel, Chandler and me and a 4 knot quartering wind off the nose.

This aircraft is equipped with a Garmin system horizontal situation indicator/horizon/HSI with command bars and the whole nine yards. Altitude and airspeed are shown on vertical rolling tapes to the left and right of the attitude indicator all of which takes a little time to acclimate to. The transponder and comm are 2 1/4" round indicators with a couple of push buttons. When we entered KTKI airspace yesterday the controller was handling about a dozen aircraft so he asked me to "ident", that sent me scrambling because I had no idea how to do that on this system. A quick "standby 1" from me and I found the ident button and all was well but it did get my attention. I'm going to spend a little time with the system this afternoon before I fly. The panel iOS very clean, absent all the gauges and the Garmin gear is pretty intuitive, although a digital, or even a steam gauge airspeed indicator is of little use in the final moments prior to kissing the runway, that is all "seat cushion and stick" feedback. I had a good friend who I took in my Cub when it was new and he decided he had to have one. I checked him out in mine while they built his. Dick was a Piper Meridian pilot, actually Meridian serial number 1. He was used to flying the Garmin glass in his Piper so he ordered a Dynon glass panel in his Cub. One day he asked if I would go shoot some landings with him in his Cub, he was frustrated because he was "flying the numbers" that I taught him to during the landing sequence, but he was floating with a few knots too much air speed, or running out of it and bouncing in. The problem was, he was watching those numbers on his Dynon airspeed tape and not feeling them in his seat cushion. We spent a half an hour in the pattern and I put a post it note over his airspeed indication, when we were done he was greasing it on. These guys that fly high and fast, all by the numbers, have a hard time acclimating to real flying again, seat of the pants stick and rudder, that's what I'm trying to teach Chandler and it will serve him well in anything he flies from here on out.

I'll take a couple of panel shots this afternoon so you can see how it's configured.

Hi Erich,

They sure do, fresh paint, leather and 100LL, a delightful combination. This bird had just a couple of hours on the hobbs when we left the factory yesterday. The air was pretty much 50 miles of cobblestone road flying home yesterday so I didn't really get to get a feel for the aircraft, this afternoon/evening should be smooth and a lot more fun. Chandler is going to be out at the barn so I'll be solo, I always have a heightened level of vigilance when he's with me, "precious cargo" and all that, I can relax a bit more when it's just me.

Darin had the new "MOAC" (Mother Of All Cubs) sitting there and he encouraged us to take it and I was tempted, but with 180 HP, huge flaps and Tundra Tires twice the size of mine, I'd kind of like an hour of check out before I blast off with that airplane and no way would I have done that with Chandler prior to a good familiarization.

Ha Cool story so you see that old school flying ( No pun intended) is much more practical then al that digital stuff.
Even some of it will help a lot during flight, Ha says the one that fly's only on the PC did my first carrier landing this afternoon hoorah

Talked to Gunny a couple of weeks ago he's doing some great stuff with his Bonanza and post's some great video's about that on youtube.

He had some air to air stuff idea's in mind and he thought about you, so maybe he will contact you

The new flightsim like FX is almost ready for release so maybe I will look in to that for flying some GA birds.
Have a great weekend..

It appears that they are moving the Dayton Air Show back to the middle of July, starting in 2021. UGH. Way too hot then, people will be passing out dehydrated again.

Laura, the Central Texas Air Show is held in early May. I have been out there setting up with a feels like temperature of 32° where the Friday night night show warmed up to degrees in the 50s. Then, there were air show days with the temps nearing 100°. It is called Texas weather.

Ray, I know my limitations with heat, and the couple times I went in July I had to leave before I got heat sick. I'd much rather the cooler temps.

Bummer on the hospital stay, spending that much time in a hospital usually means something serious. Hope you're well on the mend now!
