Thank you Erich! MA2A will be well represented! It's going to drive me crazy not shooting a still frame but this opportunity will be over in a matter of minutes and my job is cinematography. Don't know if that internal conflict will ever go away I guess I could shoot a RED Weapon at 8K and have it all......................but be living under a bridge.
I was there on Manhattan side this morning. Doesn't matter the NJ side of NY side, the jets flew so high that there was not a chance to include the skyline in the backdrop, unless you used a wide angle lens, then the jets would look like little dots in the picture. For me the "new" stuff was the 2 F-22s and the 2 F-35s following the Red Arrows in a formation. The BA didn't participate, the TB flew quite some distance ahead of the Red Arrows and the stealth jets. When the they turned around to fly back north, the 4 stealth fighters flew in a formation away from the Red Arrow. It was kind of cool to see 2 F-22s and 2 F-35s in a formation. For me, overall, it wasn't really as spectacular as I expected because they were flying so high. I bet the view in the air must be quite different. I saw dramatic sunset last nigh and sunrise this morning over Manhattan though.
Just wanted to share a few shots from the ground looking up. These are special to me because I don;'t get to see these formations often. I am not going to bore you with the Thunderbirds shots.
Can't wait to see the real deal from Jim and Glenn!
Yeah, it looked very hazy. That formation spacing probably caused lots of frustrated photographers. It looked like they left the space for the Blue Angels open just in case they showed up. The Red Arrows with the F-22s -35- in slot looked really cool.
Nothing much left to say that the sharp eyes and minds here have not already discerned. Extremely challenging conditions, last minute airspace restrictions, haze, teams flying too high for a reasonable composition and several other wrenches in the works proved to be more than a bit frustrating. I say this with all humility, but when Glenn and I come home close to empty handed, you kind of know the deck was stacked in the wrong direction.
That being said, and disappointed we were for sure, the three of us looked at each other back on the ramp and went, "we just spent two hours hovering around Manhattan in helicopters while the Thunderbirds, Red Arrows, F35 and F22 Demo Teams flew around............not a bad morning!" The added bonus of sharing that experience with Chandler (words really cannot do that justice), left us a bit unfulfilled because we are accustomed to pull the rabbit out of the hat every time, but ever so grateful we got to play together.
Chandler flew with Glenn in his helicopter due to weight and balance issues and I am very proud to say that he brought home some keepers when the rest of us failed to do so. "Chili" you have earned your call sign, you are one hot shooter!
A huge thank you to my Buddy Glenn Watson for bringing us into the mix and allowing us this experience, it will not soon be forgotten by either of us.

Thank you, Jan-Arie, Brian. Here is another shot of the F-22s and the F-35s from yesterday, they were literally above my head, so I only got their bellies.
Of the 40 or 50 airshows I have been to in the last 10 years, I saw B-52 as ground display many times, not never saw them in the air, until this year. I have seen them in the air three times since May this year. Here is one from Wednesday's airshow in Atlantic City:
I am heading up to Steward Airport in New York State tomorrow to see the Blue Angels, the Red Arrows and the F-35. That will be the last show I can go this year. Saw the Red Arrows on Wednesday in Atlantic City for the first time, great team. I think they are similar to the Canada's Snow Birds.

Outstanding job Douglas! As we witnessed things unravel in the days leading up to the flight I almost considered walking away from the aerial portion and going back into NY the night before to be set up on the ground. When I really thought about it my choices were, be in the air over NYC and watch the whole thing unfold, with the great likelihood that I wouldn't get anywhere close to what I had envisioned, or shoot it from the ground. I chose option A, not sorry, but my footage is Wouldn't trade the experience for anything though!
Wow, my first known encounter with the B-52 was at SJAFB, where they also had F-4's. Overhead every day there. Also had several varieties of it at Edwards. I lucked out at the airshows here, where they do flyovers.

Thank you Jim. I went to the Airshow at Stewart Airport yesterday and saw the Red Arrows the third time this week, never saw them before Wednesday. They put up a phenomenon show. Here are a few shots from yesterday.
Well done Douglas!! I enjoyed getting to know you a bit better over the past week or so! You have a great eye and a tenacity that is admirable, wonderful work this week my friend!

Thank you for the kind words, Jim. It means a lot coming from you. A few more shots of the BA from yesterday. I am done with airshows for this season. Will continue to lurk and learn from the masters in this thread.
"Lurk and Learn?".....................Your imagery this week hardly has you in that category You've been a sleeper Douglas, you're excellent! I knew that I'd regret not staying to shoot the show and your images sure make me think that I made the wrong decision. We had the run of the field, the venue faced the right direction for once and it looks like the weather was aces.
Truthfully, the NYC assignment had me stressed for a week before and I was battling whatever this head cold upper respiratory thing that everyone seems to have. I was exhausted and Chandler was as well, so we agreed to a Friday early am departure. I'm thinking that we all may come back next year if schedules allow and do the whole thing.
Thursday afternoon, after we shared all our footage with the powers that be, we just roamed the field during the practice sessions. Just our knocking around shots told me the show was going to be a barn burner and you took full advantage of that! Well done!
