I agree Erich, interestingly, that image was captured at close to 600mm. Canon is sending me a 600mm Series III to test, as soon as they have a few. I want to evaluate it as far as weight and "shoot ability. I'm sure I'll love it, but it will have to demonstrate a distinct advantage over my 200-400 with the 1.4 X switch to justify the entry fee.

I'm going to help Chandler with a little post processing from El Centro this weekend. He captured a number of great images but one of those ever lurking gremlins bit him. The sky was pretty dark and dismal when we arrived on base so he asked what he should bump his iso up to. I told him 400 for now would work. Right as the Blues launched the sky broke and we were shooting like crazy. Distracted by the action and a Blue who launched and had a serious gear malfunction, Chili didn't think to tame that iso 400 down a bit in the bright light. I had both 1DXII's cleaned at CPS for his shoot, but that doesn't do much good at f32. The images are great, certainly "fixable", but there's going to be some carpal tunnel syndrome involved....... Good lesson, be ever vigilant. When you think it's all too good to be true, it probably is, check to see what has gone wrong...Show more →
Hopefully Master C has now got his eye in with clicking the dust bunnies! One of the things that Mr Canon has s l o w l y come to terms with is making auto ISO “float” in a reasonably helpful way. Once I’d got my head around it, I found auto ISO (on my 80D) generally working with me. However, landing / take off shots where the light goes all landscape on me are still …. difficult.
I’m sure that Mr Canon will have a replacement for the 1DXII soon – what with the Olympics in Japan next year. But what will it be? Will it be the last iteration of a pro, sports / action DSLR? Or will it be a pro mirrorless done right? Meanwhile, over here in consumer land the message I’m getting is that Canon are trying to push me back towards full frame. Well, when it comes to it I migh just have to jump ship – I don’t need that amount of enlagement capability, nor the wieght!

I really like that first coming home. We focus so often on maximizing reach we forget about the wide shots that sometimes speak loudest.
Up here in Iowa it is about 12F, winds out of the WNW at 28 Gusting to 55!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it's flying, it's horizontal and because it wasn't tied down..... Sun appears to be out but with 3-4 inches of fresh snow just a blowing in the wind so to speak it's more like a BLIZZARD than anything else. Oh ya, 20 miles west or north of us is in a Blizzard warning.
So I am just hunkering down and getting "inside" stuff done, like photo editing and cleaning up files. Got way behind on my photo stuff with another project.
Local catholic High School asked me to build them an Altar for school masses. Something light, portable, maybe 2 piece and oh by the way look stout as the foundation of our church should be. I started it last August and made great progress until October happened; travel to Japan, Germany, Italy and couple weeks of domestic travel pretty much stalled all progress till the 1st of this year. Finished up last week and took some pics this past week to record the effort.
Think it turned out "ok" for my first Altar,
Enjoy,
Dan
Very nice, Dan. We're getting those high winds here now, gusts up to 60mph. Have one brake rotor sitting on the lid of the trash can, and another brake rotor sitting on the lid of the recycle can.
Decided to leave the car out on the street as the tree by the driveway has some dangling branches, and I don't need that aggravation to deal with on top of everything else. No snow on the ground, YET. I haven't put the snow shovel nor the overshoes away yet.
Sun is shining bright and I'm heading for snoozyland

Just look at today, Sunday, I shot a bank exterior before church, went to church, then Sunday school, then had Sunday school "Lunch Bunch", after which I took Sheila home and headed out to shoot another bank, two surgical hospitals with a short stop at DFW to kill some time prior to setting up my dusk shot just west of there..........see, "a day of rest"!

What is it with you, and banks and Sunday? Look – trust me – there is no one in the bank on a Sunday. You can shoot at it all you want – there is nobody there to hand over the money. OK? ….. talk about staff issues.....
After much soul searching and going back and forth a few hundred times, I've decided to part with all my Nikon gear and go strictly Olympus m43 system.
Over the next few weeks I'll be putting up my D500 with grip, newly serviced D5, 70-200 f/2.8, 300FP and very hard to get 500PF lenses, as well as TC-14, TC-17 and TC-20 teleconverters. I'd prefer to give our group first shot at them knowing it'd all be put to good use before listing them on the buy and sell forum. I try to be gentle on my gear, so it's all in excellent condition. PM me if you're interested.
