More from Wright-Patt Doolittle Raid observance.

There were a couple of variations of the tail gun area, but "Miss Hap" took a unique approach.

Mt Hutt, at the edge of the Southern Alps, bathed in the light of the full Moon, with Orion presiding (he's upside down, for those of us who happened to grow up in the Northern Hemisphere). They've got some good air down there in NZ, you betcha.

This is a single, 15 sec exposure, made with the ZS100 mounted on a tabletop tripod.

Me, jealous, green with envy..... no not me.... much! I'm sure it will go in the family album - but if the quality will allow the enlargement IMHO it deserves wall space - bit time!

Looks fantastic! I got busted following the link. Just as it came up on the screen, Thea walked into my man cave. Well - talk about sold. I think I can hear her muttering about suit cases and packing.... oh I'm in deep weeds now.

What .... I'm busted on TOPP again. Shish - no need to do the lottery this week.

OK, This is a location scouting picture. This church has flood lights so I'm trying to find out when they are on - more difficult that you might think. The elevated position is courtesy of a disused railway bridge that is now a public footpath. In front and out of shot is a heavily lit road junction - so this viewpoint may be unusable. Webesee.

That provides a safe and unique viewing spot, but not much a photo platform. Doug Jeanes is working on modifying "Barbie" to be more photographically friendly . The Pacific Prowler, now "God and Country" has one of the best tail positions I've ever shot from. They are all cramped, noisy, fraught with hazards, and absolutely wonderful!

The southern edge of the Black Hills is a beautiful part of the country, and much less touristy than the area around Mt Rushmore. Don't miss the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs: the beasts slipped into a steep-sided prehistoric pothole lake and were unable to get out. Their remains were preserved when the lake filled with sediment and dried out.

If you love wild horses and are more adventurous, look into the Pryor Mountains wild horses, on the MT/WY border.

Thanks, Nick! The thing about NZ is that, even when you're not carrying serious photo gear or planning to do any photography, the darn place is so photogenic you can't help yourself. I grabbed this from the patio of our lodgings, in my shirt sleeves, while Marcia was inside reading a book.

And, yes, the quality at 100% is quite good enough for a large print.

BTW, did I ever share this, from last year's visit to the South Island?

Hi Steve,

Yup, but be thankful because two of the crew had the flu or food poisoning and puked in trash bags all the way up from Texas. I can't remember what happened to goof the schedule up, but I airlined up, not sorry at all!

Then we had that psycho nut job that came along on the photo flight and made my life miserable for a year.

I remember the pictures (how on earth could I forget!) not sure about that particular presentation. In particular I remember the sunrise (?) with Marcia sat on the porch relaxing and enjoying - epic images.

Now you've done it. My niece, whois the one responsible for me getting into shooting equestrian events, will go nuts when she sees this.

p.28 #18 · Mustang Air to Air: The Sequel

Hi Erich,

With Chandler's affinity for horses I think this will be a fun combination of loves for him and a little something different to do together.

I was talking with a friend at the airport last week about his horses. He's the guy that overnights zillion dollar horses around the globe. Apparently he has put together a world class team of some type of horses and they compete all over the world. I shot his Hunter Jumper years ago and he loved the images, had no idea what I was doing, but when you have an animal that is that beautiful, in nice light and surroundings, you can't get too far off of the path. The conversation turned to the latest competition, in Ocala I think. He was telling me all about it and how his team placed second or third, that it was incredibly beautiful and exciting. I glibly mentioned that it sounds like a great place to have a photographer in attendance. He smiled and said, "ahhh, those guys were all over the place, but none of them shoot like you (which I find difficult to believe), and he went on to complain about how expensive they were and he only got a couple of halfway decent shots, blah, blah, blah. I just look at him and slightly tongue in cheek, but really not, said, "well, you know my rates, you apparently love my work, I shoot everywhere, seems like the next move would be up to you........." He glossed over that because the conversation at this point was aimed at talking about the number and type of horses and the other competitions they had won this year.

I don't really care, and it's not like I'm jonesing for his business, but conversations like that just leave me dumbfounded. The guy has cash flowing out of his ears, and he can't connect the dots, or doesn't want to? All the while I'm staring at the 20x30's of my work that he had me print, hanging on his hangar office wall. Same thing when he raced Porsches all over, raved about my aviation images, talked about me traveling with his racing team, never happened. Makes you scratch your head, but I'm at the stage where I care less and less.

That's not dusk, that's moonlight! To the naked eye, the sky looked black; but the sun had gone down over the mountain an hour or two before and there was still a little afterglow the camera picked up to make the sky blue in the photo.

No, I can't view the book on my iPad, either...
