Jim,
I like the varied lighting in these last drone shots. Could you please share the conditions with respect to wind as well as the settings on the drone. As a drone flyer, I'd like to experiment with this and would be curious to know how you go about it.

Thanks,
Gero

Thanks Gero,

Let me go back and see what exif info I can glean for you. The Mavic 4 Pro has a very different profile from my Mavic 3. Honestly, I was scrambling to get the last rays of light on Monday evening, and I don't remember how I set the drone. The details of the assignment are the stuff photographer's nightmares are made of, I'll give you a recap this weekend when I have time to catch my breath.

Hi Joe,

Thanks! It's a blur, 1400 miles and a very challenging assignment from 5am Monday to 8pm Tuesday, it was something.

Little bit crazy out there, the 35-100E is selling for more than double its list price due to non-existent deliveries, and the X2DII body is selling for over 10K. I feel like I walked out with a relative bargain at list price. My plan is to “sell” it every day and still have it.🤣

It would be amazing to see what your static jet livery images, or your recent residential shots, would look like with that setup, Jim.

I have an R7 that I bought second hand and converted to do astro photography, but I'm now really intrigued by the specs of the R6 III with its full frame sensor, and considering getting one to modify. I have a Move Shoot Move astro rotator that I would use it with. 32mp full frame sounds like a nice setup.

Good Morning Gero,

I have a number of air to air projects that I have been holding at bay until the camera and lens arrived, let's see how many I can get done before everything goes dormant. The subjects range from new Vision Jets to new SR-22's and a couple of pristinely restored Stinson's.

The R6 III looks like a great camera, and for half the price of an R5II. When I was picking up the Hasselblad yesterday I asked about availability and they said that they had a couple in stock.

Another playoff game, another stadium (New Baunfels, TX). I was standing at the back of the end zone with the play beginning at the 35 yard line. Quarterback threw the pass to the receiver who first touched it at the 2 yard line and pulled it in over his shoulder at the goal line. When I saw the pass headed my way I backed up another five yards to capture the grab. The players are backlit from the 15 yard line to the end zone.

Hi Jim,
we all know you're a very busy man - many thanks for this. It's always impressive to me how far we've come with our tools - for such a small sensor to be able to get something so crisp and stable at 1/13 second is pretty incredible.

I remember when ShotOver, an NZ based company, made a drone that could lift a Red cinema camera with lens for a 20 minute flight, what they showed as demo videos was quite impressive, but you needed two people to operate it. When I look at what I got in New Zealand last summer with my mini 4 pro, it's hard to tell the difference.

I just wonder how much of what we shoot ends up in China somewhere...

Thanks for taking the time to share the shot data, Jim. I hope you had a somewhat restful weekend.

Gero

Good Evening Gero,

Yes, our gear is nothing short of amazing these days. I have friends with Shotover rigs on an L39, an Aerospatiale helicopter and on a Phenom 300, the stuff is incredible, and incredibly expensive.

I had a good weekend, thanks! This week looks pretty relaxing, until the annual Christmas decorating marathon begins on Saturday morning. I'm going to have to pace myself a little this year because my Ortho guy is telling me that I have asked just a little too much of my back over the years and I'm going to have to work a little smarter. He's got me in physical therapy three times a week which is helping. I hate it when they look at you like, "you're 76 man, what do you expect?!" I'm in complete denial about that and intend to stay that way as long as I am able. The Good Lord will decide when I quit, I just have to be a bit more careful about how I do my work.

On a happier topic, I took the Hasselblad out to the hangar this afternoon and got it all customized for my workflow. We have some weather rolling through but when it breaks we'll be up in the air putting it through it's paces. Nice to not have the pressure of knowing that I'll have to give it back in a few days. I'm going to make it a part of my hand.

You know Jim, when I got to the part about weather coming through, and the dynamic range you mentioned that the Hasselblad is capable of, I immediately thought of some of the weather systems that come through the Southwest, and how spectacular those images would be with that setup. Not asking you to turn into a storm chaser , but just sayin'

And while we're on this topic - anyone remember the Seitz D3 160mp 6x17 digital panoramic camera from 2006? For some bizarre reason, I suddenly remembered this. Nicely fits in a jacket pocket

The "Emirates A380 courier" refers to an Emirates Airbus A380 passenger jet that has been repainted with a unique livery to promote its new Emirates Courier Express service. The livery is designed to look like a brown paper-wrapped package, featuring the UAE flag on the tail and "Emirates Courier Express" branding on the side and engines. This specially painted A380 flies with both passengers and parcels, showcasing the airline's door-to-door delivery service.
