p.1178 #1 · Mustang Air to Air: The Sequel

I have to give this one back a week from Wednesday, which ought to be just long enough to convince me that I can't live without it. My body and lenses are supposed to arrive before the end of the month. Hasselblad is expecting them to be in very short supply.

Funny, the 90mm/f2.5 has similar Bokeh to the RF85/1.2. I noticed this afternoon that I had to be very careful with James' head position at f3.5 or the focus would drop off at the bridge of his nose if his head was turned. This camera will be a real treat when shooting executive portraits, or any portraits really. The character of the images is something that will intrigue clients, even though they have no idea why. That's the way the RF50/and RF85/1.2 lenses are, but this is even more so.

I have an air to air tentatively scheduled for early Thursday morning, I want to put it through its paces before I have to give it back.

This is a demo camera, although it was untouched when I opened the box yesterday, and it will look that way when I reluctantly pack it back up.

Jim, Can't wait to see what comes from your renewed relationship with Hasselblad .

Thanks Zane. I had to drag the family in a Friday rush hour traffic from Toronto to London, just to experience this evening adventure. Good experience overall.

Why I won't be buying a new Canon camera that does not have a global shutter. The current Canon pro-lineup, R1 and R3 overview says: "As a camera built for speed, the R1 sports a newly designed 24.2MP full-frame back-illuminated stacked sensor that offers impressively fast readout speeds and a staggering 40 fps top continuous shooting rate with an electronic shutter, along with blackout-free viewing and greatly reduced rolling shutter distortion." As I understand their design, they are greatly reducing the chance of rolling shutter with high processing speeds.

I know my R6 isn't the latest and greatest, but I don't want to spend $$$ for anything like this:

I have stopped using Electronic shutter mode just for this reason. Its EFC for me all the time. Flagships Canon bodies should all have global shutter.

This isn't meant to be this brand vs that brand, never will be. The Sony A9III has global shutter, also 24 MP like the Canon RI, can shoot 120 FPS. A good used one can be had for $4000. I have never tried one and have no interest of getting one. For me, I need higher resolution for cropping.

Can I throw in a few shots from yesterday morning?

Dam that's a lot of sunflowers.
Very neat looking and they obviously harvest these.
Be neat to see how the machines do that.

I understand Douglas. Yes, at this time Sony is the only brand I know of with a global shutter. I don't understand Canon's hesitation for producing such a camera for sports. I understand the R3 II may be their first offering with a global shutter and hopefully it will be out by next spring. But as Jim as said many times waiting on certain Canon gear, the webesee turns into what happened Canon?

I was disappointed when I saw the shot. I really don't chimp when I am shooting, I usually can tell if I got the shot through the viewfinder. The reason I was disappointed was this is the team's star player for getting kill shots in volleyball. I got that shot and started concentrating on the other players. At the first break I checked the shots and saw the Easter Egg ball. By that time they were overpowering the opposition so they took her out to give the subs some playing time. (The opposing team scored 6 points for their highest score in 3 games.). So I didn't have a shot to send to the editor with their star player.

Good Morning Guys,

Well, the first Hasselblad X2DII to go air to air was in my hands this morning at sunrise and it did not disappoint. This is the first capture out of the gate and I really did not think it would be much because of the ridiculous dynamic range that would be required to reproduce the scene but....................................

Adam Baker right?

By the way Mrs Wilson is asking why you need another body

Great stuff for a first try... be sure to let Hasselblad see it...

Hi Ray,

Nope, the X2D II has IBIS that they claim is effective up to 10 stops. Hasselblad suggests turning IBIS off if you mount the camera on a tripod, and actually there is a sensor in the camera that will do it if you forget. I shot as low as 1/30th this morning and it worked beautifully.

I had to leave for Ft. Worth to shoot so I couldn’t go through all my shots, but I shot some with the R5II as well. The ones that I looked at were very nice, but the three dimensional effect of the Hasselblad was not in evidence. A quick glance makes me think that the R5Ii hit ratio is 100%, and the Hasselblad is less than that, but when the Blad is on, I don’t have anything in the arsenal that will come close to the quality.

Glad to see your last comment Jim.
Was curious how you think the R5II would do compared, and I'm sure rather well.
