Great captures Eddie Ray! Was glued to the "boob tube" for 3 days and my wife did NOT like that!!! Sorry Texas got hammered! OSU is one of my viewing traumas of anything sports related. But the rankings still have Texas #1.
Again great captures!

He's a real comedian Bill! Loves to buzz me and drop small pumpkins now. He has an air horn that plays the old steering wheel horn rhyme as he approaches. Can't remember the tunes name but many "Caddy" drivers had it...Just not the normal car horn.
Farmers can be crazy when they want to be!
Thanks!

Look out for falling pumpkins, . Of course he's an easy target up there, hate to crash in that thing.

Well Paul had a problem a few years back when the winds picked up rather suddenly and the turbulence had him swaying all over. He tried to land and he came in quite "hard". Luckily those are air inflated tires so he bounced a little b4 he rolled over.
Yes I have thought about "shooting" back but that could be dangerous for him and the distraction of "incoming fire".
Jim's nephew's aviation crew, in their Blackhawks and Apache gunships, flew by 1 day when Paul was in the air and they dropped low to give him a "waggle and a wave". and an escort.

Fun times at CIAS 2025. F35A Lighting was a show stopper. I did not know they tour with a dedicated person for doing live show commentary. Dude was knowledgeable and funny as hell It was dry and RH was low, so no crazy vapor cones.

Magical if you can relate that to this aircraft! Just fine photography!

I have been slowly rebuilding my kit to all Canon mirrorless. Next up is another camera. The R6 III is rumored to show up by Q4 to take advantage of holiday sales, while the R3 II is questionable. I am waiting on a global shutter version which would probably be the R3 II, if they build it. I don't need all the megapixels for sports since i have a limited time to process and upload my files to the editor, and megapixels take time. With our slow, overworked cellular systems here in Central Texas, it has taken me 10 minutes to upload several 13 mpixel files, so a 20-30 mp sensor is a sweet spot for me. I still have the R5C for the portrait shots, but they are transferred during the day when I have more time.

Not good at all.
Another one a few days before in Montana, plane slid off runway and hit two others.

Very nice set, cs3is! I love the lighting on these. I have seen F-35A, F-35C and F-35B demos many times, I don't recall seeing them popping flares. I have seen the F-22 demo popping flares in the last two years. Will see the F-22 and the F-35C demos at Oceana in less than 3 weeks, along with the Blue Angels and the F-18 Super Hornet demo. Oceana almost always has nice lineup.
The hummers are doing a good job accumulating body fat for the migration. Some recent shots from my garden.
Jim, I haven't touched my 600 F4 for a long time. The 300 f2.8+2X TC is so much lighter and compact, but it can't get me to 840mm (600mm+1.4TC). I used to bring the 200-600 and 600+1.4TC to airshows, now if it's a day time show, I just bring the 400-800, and the 100-400 if I know I will need wider than 400mm.

Correct. Raptor team as been playing with the flares for sometime. I hope to catch some Raptor this Friday.
Given your needs, I would seriously consider the R1. That camera checks all the boxes for a sports photographer. I would have one but I just can't get past the 50% reduction in MP for most of my work. Haven't shot one but I am sure that it's an incredible tool.
I had an annual report shoot on Tuesday that involved a lot of mixed lighting and delicate strobe work. I'll have to admit to some pre-shoot anxiety about being able to pull it off successfully. Lots of people involved, fast moving/ever changing compositions with little room for error. I pulled out all of my Westcott FJ400's the day before and went through the menu system just to make sure that I was up to speed. The shoot was an hour south of Dallas and I did my usual deal where I wake up at 4 and my mind starts going through all the things that might pop up, so I just hopped in the shower and headed to the location........four hours early. By the time the players arrived I had scouted every conceivable location/composition, had even lit several of them. The whole thing went very smoothly and the FJ400's performed beautifully. I have a couple of Westcott 24" & 36" beauty dish modifiers and they are so great for portraits of any kind, the quality of light emanating from them is just beautiful and they allow you to control the lighting so well. The client who called and asked me to do the assignment is one of my very early clients way back in the early 80's. We all went to lunch together after the shoot, it was really very nice. I have found that anxiety is a constant companion in this business so I've learned to recognize it and turn it into a positive by motivating me to be ultra prepared. I hate the feeling, but if you are going to be anxious, you might as well use it to your advantage.
I have toyed with the idea of putting together a Profoto system just because the brand seems to be the weapon of choice for the well heeled corporate photographer, but truthfully, the Westcott strobes offer everything the Profoto's do and at a fraction of the investment. The newest version FJ400/800 units have a touch screen, which is a lot more handy when running through the complicated menu system. My 400 units were around $400 each, the new series II's are around $600. A similar powered Profoto unit is 4 times that price, pretty amazing value.

Yesterday I was out in the yard and heard a high altitude roar...I looked to my SE and saw a flight of 4 F35's and 4 F16s strung out and banking towards the DC/N.VA area.
Turns out they had a fly over for a Polish pilot who flew F16's and died in August.
No I could not grab a camera in time........
Great shots Douglas, Bill and others!!!!!!
