The new 24-105 f2.8 Z came this morning. No wildlife in sight so I decided to take a still life of a pear growing on the tree that is the namesake of my farm, Withering Pear. When I bought the place in the winter of 2004 more than half of the pear tree trunk was missing, even part of the pith. The pear tree's branches seemed lifeless during winter, yet they remained flexible, bending without breaking which gave the farm its name. The 11 blade aperture produces a creamy background.
It is that time Eddie Ray! Apples are on the trees, pears are ripening, all things Fall is slowly appearing with cooler temps here in Mary-land. 55F tonight! Window will be wide open!
Great composition..

I was set to go to the sunset show at Military Aviation Museum near Virginia Beach this afternoon, I love shooting at sunset but it's 250 mile from me and the ticket is $75. So I decided to save myself some trouble and $$. No shows for me until next month in Belgium, then Oceana. I will be at the Sanicole show in Belgium the same weekend they have the show at Andrews. I have seen the same performers at Andrews this year dozens of time so I am not really missing much.
For now I have to be content with some hummers in my yard....Show more →
Just beautiful photography Douglas!!!
The cooler temps have brought my 2 hummers out and thinking it is time to head South. 55F tonight! In fact all flying "objects" seem to have sensed that Fall is coming. Much activity on my patio flowers. Gold finches arrived this morning!

Bill's "Challenge Coins" are "thee" best I have encountered since I started exchanging them 50+ years or more.
Bill's "Challenge Coins" were supposed to be exhibited in the Pentagon's 9-11 Memorial Center but due to some politicin', they got eliminated for some other "piece of crap"!
That is fine to me because what they were replaced with in the exhibit was of a lesser "value".
Bill's dedication to those who fought and served and his unselfish character in recognizing all those who served in any conflict has to be commended!
And it should also go without saying, that ALL the patriots that welcome this forum, started by Jim many years ago, whether in the service of their Country or those covering "our six" from the background, THANK YOU!!!
A soldier is only as good as his support!
Thanks brother!
Hawkeye One Zero-Actual, 1967-1969
Bill's "Challenge Coin" is being presented for display by the Pentagon's 9-11 Media Officer. The coin in the Lt Col's hand is a 3D-printer replica of Bill's Pentagon 9-11 coin.
It/they this AND Bill's original, are now on display at the Pentagon Memorial Room.

Hard to believe that 9-11 is very near! Pearl Harbor was a "day of infamy", 9-11 was a day of pure evil!
Well that only took a few years Dan but better late than never...As in NEVER FORGET...
.
Ps...Only 105 here last few days...99 today.
.
Eddie...Send me a Pear...That looks yummy.

Thank you Dan! I have 7 or 8 hummers in my yard and I have 4 feeders and lots of flowers for them. They have been fighting like crazy the last two weeks. They are definitely getting ready to move south.

Here are some shots from this morning.
They are indeed Douglas! My goldfinch's arrived Sunday and are now feeding on the seeds left by the dead flowers heads.
All sorts of activity in my flowers.

Well you should know how politicians "roll" by now brother! If there is a way that they can delay something for any type of an excuse they do!
I "knocked"(kicked) on a few doors and called in some "chits" and it got done.
The "squeaky wheel gets the oil" right! I can be a persistant motherfxxxxr if I want to be and they know that!
Took me 18 months to get my "ARMY" magazine article on the 150th Anniversary of Arlington Natl Cemetery published after it was accepted for print!

These are more for cooking and making preserves. I have eaten them ripened on the tree. I found I can't get too far from the "facilities" after I eat them off the tree. Unfortunately the weather we have had has been hard on this old pear tree. The last few years it began blooming before the last freeze and that has taken a toll.

We had thee hottest and humid summer EVER Bill! We had less than an inch of rain all August...a record drought!
Yesterday the weather broke! It was nice! Today even nicer with low 50's for nites.! Sort of invigorates me!
My hummers are telling me it is time to head South......all things flying are maximizing their "winter stores" with nectar.
I have been "shooting" macro for weeks on my patio. My hand tremors have gotten to the point I MUST have "IS" in at least the camera body or lens. I am loosing hundreds of images from hand tremors!
Trees are yellowing and soy beans are turning also. Love it!

There is a hot air balloon service near me and it uses my neighbor's fields to launch.
The last few days have been beautiful with a taste of Fall in the air.
