One of the giant scale models flying on Labor Day weekend is a replica of the Valkyrie. Hope it's flying on Friday, as that's the only day I can attend.

Congratulations Laura, yes I agree that not much else in the contest was my cup of tea. And that the whole 3 vote thing was rather odd.

Jim, yes I plan on spending at least one day at Alliance this year. October is going to be busy. We are going to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, then trying for a kitchen pass the next weekend to Wings over Houston, then AFW....whew. lol. See ya there!

Everyone along the Texas/Louisiana coast, take care and keep safe. Evacuate if you have to.

Well done Laura! You put yourself out there - that makes you every bit as much of an artist as any other. Artists are special people, they enrich our world and ask for little in return. That your also one of the worlds carers is both wonderful and unsurprising.

Funny story, I had a meeting with the big client that I've been doing this crisis shoot for this week. They have a drone guy and I'm not looking for drone work so that all works for me. Anyway, apparently the drone guy does the deal where you geomap the coordinates and send it off. First it more than likely busts FAA regs and second how would you ever trust it enough to do that even if you could? Well the drone guy launches the mission based upon Google earth information but it never returns.................wait I have had this dream

---

Every rule, regulation and law is because of some idiot defying prudent & common sense.

That's bad enough but as Murphy said, "nothing is fool proof because fools are so ingenious"--- meaning the idiot whose actions 'sponsored' the new law constantly expands it's scope and complexity in their pursuit of loopholes.

The result? Mind boggling complexity.

Meanwhile my wife is watching a James Cagney movie from the early 30's --- I'm thinking of moving there ... and hey, I could post with a penny postcard!

Wow, take a look at this. Absolutely amazing progress toward photorealistic real time sims. Back in the day I was pretty heavily into flight sims: US Navy Fighters, Longbow, Falcon 3 and 4. I haven't done anything in many years, but this has convinced me it's time to install bootcamp on my iMac and get back into sims. I bought the A-10 and P-51 modules and the Nevanda/Nellis/Normanydy Beach terrains. There's new planes coming soon too, F-18, F-14, and F-4, that look incredibly realistic.

edit: OK, I give up, is it no longer possible to embed a YouTube video instead of just the link?

None of the virtualization software runs the newest version of DirectX, which the sims need. Plus, as good as the VMs have gotten, the sims still need as much horsepower as possible.

Where did you get that link? It's not in any of the share or embed options listed??

Erich,

I have DCS. It's amazing. Got myself a Thrustmaster Warthog as well. Adds so much having a proper replica stick and throttle. Have a look at the DCS forums, there's some Russian manufacturers who make joysticks that are even better.

Mark, thanks for the heads-up. I'm just starting to look thru those forums. I'm an old Thrustmaster fan from back when Buzz Hoffman was running the show. Had the FLCS and then Cougar setup when I was on a PC, and I was looking at getting the Warthog setup soon since I plan on working my way thru the A-10 flight school missions and then the Red Flag stuff to get myself back up to speed.

(deleted) I don't go to many air shows, can't stand the traffic you have to deal with, once they are done. (deleted)

Jay,

When the airshow is over, go back to your car and have a snack and something to drink. Then take a nap for a couple hours in the car. When you wake up, you are rested, and the traffic is gone.

My brother does this every year, when he goes to Treasure Island to watch the 4th of July fireworks in San Francisco. Why fight traffic and wear yourself out? Take a nap, get some rest, and let the traffic take care of itself.

Just booked a TLE shoot at RAF Cosford on 25th October Hopefully the knee I had arthroscoped and massively planed down yesterday will be OK by then!! Just spent three weeks on crutches until it was decided that steroid injection that made it worse rather than better had dissipated and surgery was OK
Still going through my RIAT images - some did turn out better than I expected despite first appearances and such lousy weather.

Funny for this to happen during a hurricane! It hasn't stopped raining since yesterday.

I got the link from the address bar, then removed the extra stuff at the end to get the basic URL for the video. )

Chandler spent the night last night because with school beginning we haven't had time to hang out for a while. He also wanted to show me his 16th birthday present which has been a month in the making. We went to HQ and put a two step McGuiars treatment on it. When he rolled out the finish looked a mile deep..........

Thanks for the tips on how to survive the traffic after the air show.

I might just do that. Not much into naps, though.....I need a real bed to sleep. Never have been able to "nap", unfortunately.

That is why I have to go get some Xanax anytime I go overseas, I get too excited about the trip, flying on a jumbo jet, etc....and I can't sleep worth a darn.

When I worked for Korean Air, I flew from DFW to ICN non-stop, took two Xanax and slept for 11 hours. Best way to get over there, especially in coach class !! Business Class and First Class were WIDE open, but the Asian carriers will NOT allow their employees to sit up there, even if it is open. Crazy !!
