We went to a not so local fly inn +400 km round trip, to see a couple of flights by a Fokker D21.
The D21 was the main Dutch fighter at the beginning of the Second World War.
This D21 is a replica as non have survived the war
It was build with the original plans
It also was heavily used by the Finish Air Force.
Because of the layout it was difficult to photograph visiting aircraft.
Unfortunately the D21 went u/s when he taxied for departure something with high oil pressure, and they weren't able to fix it.
Great to see the D21!
Ed Nash does a great job on his YouTube channel with interwar and early WWII planes and has a good segment on it. Just search "Fokker D.XXI" (can't link it on this site).
For those interested, I attached the Sidewinder low level route which includes points A through M. For clarification, the references to Jedi Transition, Star Wars Canyon and Rainbow Canyon are all referring to section point C to point J. This is what Kevin and I are referring to when discussing altitude restrictions due to the crash in 2019. For low shots nowdays, spotters are in other locations along the Sidewinder with some being quite the hike as Kevin noted. The good old days of easy access shooting in Star Wars Canyon are over.
Thanks Jeff! I have a lot of research to do. I'd really rather they tell me that they want something along the California coast from the tail of a B25.....................

During the war, (SEA), when I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Berdoo, we would drive up 395 to Mammoth mountain and Lake Tahoe to go snow skiing in the winter and Lake Crowley to fish in May. I guess they were not flying the canyons in 1970?
There is a show at McGuire AFB, NJ this weekend, the lineup is kind of meh, just the Thunderbirds and a bunch of cargo jets and tankers. Most likely I will skip this one due to other commitments. I am planning to see the BA's rehearsal next Tuesday and the real show on Wednesday next week at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. It's only 30 miles from me so why not. The show on Jones Beach, Long Island next weekend has a great lineup, TB, F-35B and F-35C, Super Hornet demo, F-16 Fighting Falcon NORAD Demo, EA-18G Growler 2-Ship Demo... very long drive and $120 tolls round trip! I can drive all the way to Florida from my house with zero toll, but a trip to nearby NJ and NY costs a small fortune in tolls.
I was surprised there wasn't a big flyover over Washington DC last week for the 80th anniversary of the V-E Day.

Doug, thanks for the comment. This lineup was also not so great. Besides the T-Birds, they had several F-15's do demo of inflight refueling, since SJAFB houses both F-15's and KC46 Pegasus. They also had an F-15/T38 mock ground attack which was cool, and a Lockheed F-94 Starfire, but then it was just several acrobatic displays. But there were several last minute cancellations which included a C-17 and DH100 Vampire, and the Thunderbird show was delayed by 45 minutes to swap out an F-16 that had issues. Also, the flight line is on the north side of the runway, so you are shooting into the sun which doesn't supply the best lighting. I have gone to the Jones Beach show in the past, and that suffers from the same sunlight issue, just so you are aware. Good luck with the traffic and the tolls at that one!!!

I have been to the Jones Beach show several times. Tough lighting for sure. They got some rude people there. doesn't matter how early you get there to take up a good spot, some people who stroll in at 10 o'clock will just squeeze in right in front of you, may even stick up a beach umbrella! Last year I went on Friday for the rehearsal. The show on the following Sunday was cancelled due to heavy fog. It was something to watch the F-35B hovering over the ocean.
I understand your disdain, the 70-200/2.8 is a workhorse. Are you having a problem with yours? I'd ride it to the end if it's still performing. I did sell a virtually new RF version when I ordered the Z. Like each iteration, the Z is just a shade better than the perfection found in the RF. I haven't found a flaw in any of them.

Not really having a problem, but it has been on my 7D/R6 for volleyball and basketball a lot plus as a second lens for some football. I have used it a lot, definitely my most used lens.
I just decided (like several guys here, thanks Jan-Arie) to eliminate my EF lenses and go to RF. With that in mind, I have just began wondering if I should get the 24-105 Z or the 70-200 Z. I have been looking at my basketball photos and most focal lengths are between 70-95mm. Volleyball are mostly 200mm. I reminded myself how I thought the 24-105 Z would be a killer basketball lens under the net. But with volleyball I would need to research the 24-105 with an extender. I am really interested in the 24-105 Z.
Once you shoot with an RF lens it's very difficult to resist going all RF. My plan was to stick with EF, I thought that RF glass was ridiculously expensive, then I tested one for Canon and...............
The 24-105 Z is such a great lens, but I have no experience with using a 1.4 on it.
I have a plan in place now. I will get the 24-105 Z now, then, when football and volleyball begin I will add the RF 70-200 and RF 100-500. I will keep my EF 300/1.4 Extender for soccer in the dungeons. It is going to hard to let go that 100-400 workhorse. But, even castles became obsolete.
