Mine was a 72 Midget. I bought it in 82 from a Colonel at Schofield Barracks on Oahu for a work car for $150. Engine was froze up. Long story short I drove it to work the following day. A couple days later I went up to Schofield to get the spare set of keys from the Colonel. Pulled up to the gate and the MP’s saw the officer sticker. Heels clicked, salutes, and I was on the Barracks🤣🤣. Always a fun car to drive but needed constant maintenance (more than a Jeep).

Now if it got you into the Officers Club that would have been even better Mike!! No "near beer" there

Due to convective activity between The North Pole and Allen my new M4 MacBook Pro won't arrive until January 6th, that should pretty much conclude the revamping of my imaging gear for a bit. This MBP should last me awhile, Pro Max processor, 128GB of RAM and an 8TB SSD. I'll probably add one more Thunderbay 8 in January and that should carry me through 2025. I've been building a complete post processing system at the hangar, including all of my files, so I can transition seamlessly from one office to the other with an 8TB SSD to update files from one site to the other. Bench tests tell me that the M4 chip will be several times faster than my 2021 M1 MBP and I'm looking forward to that bump. I called OWC the other day to check on any M4/Thunderbay compatibility issues and they told me that they are up to speed with the M4 chip.
16" I would assume. M4 chip is worth the upgrade if you are on M1. New TB 5 drives are scoring better numbers then Internal SSD in synthetic benchmarks I will be pulling the plug soon as well.

Time to learn some of this new fangled RF technology. All my EF gear predates 2013, and has been slowing wearing out and dying. Thus, after several convos with JW, I have gone out and did a full gear reboot with new RF tech..
Now its time to read the manual and learn a menu that has 2x-3x the pages I'm acclimated to.
Jim,
Mr. Wilson must be getting kickbacks from Canon for all of his convincing advice! I did the same thing as you , but on a much more modest scale! There is some significant learning curve here, but I am loving the R5MII after just 2 weeks of playing/shooting with it. And your spot-on with your comment about the manual!! A 1200+ page PDF!!!. Longer than the owners manual for the Space Shuttle! Good luck with it all!
Unfortunately there aren't any kickbacks coming from Canon, shoot, I'm not even an "Explorer of Light". What they actually do for me is make sure that I get my stuff way early in the game and I have a rep that has my back at every turn. I pay NY street prices for all my gear. I also need to give the lion's share of the credit for my timely equipment arrivals to Eugene Jabbour at Competitive Camera in Dallas, and his dear Dad before Eugene took over the shop. Those two gentleman have never steered me wrong on any piece of equipment and have worked hand in hand with Canon to make sure I have my equipment in hand as early as humanly possible, they are simply the best in the business.
Now, I think that I saw that instruction manual at some point, but like "War & Peace", I left it on a shelf somewhere. The best advice I can give you is hit the button that says "On" and go shoot with it, you'll be creating masterpieces before the scholars get out of the index pages............. Youtube reviews are priceless, and you have a pretty deep brain trust here with the brothers. You guys will love the "II", don't be afraid of it, go blast away and let's see some cool stuff.
My 16" Space Black M4 MacBook Pro arrived way early, the 27th rather than the 6th. Lucky thing I love Apple products because their customer service has gone from spectacular to garbage. A few years ago I would walk into an Apple Store and the manager would pull in the small business team to help me with my order, discounted and tax exempt, ou the door in short order. Fast forward to Apple 2024, I walk into the Knox Street Apple Store and am greeted by a young girl who knows absolutely nothing, won't let me talk to small business, but keeps running back to someone in the back room with every question that I have. An hour later I am no further along on a $10,000 order than I was when I pulled into my parking space. Everything I asked was impossible, after no less than a dozen trips back to consult with someone who obviously didn't give a hoot about my business, I finally, politely, said thanks and walked out. I ordered everything online and was assured by Apple that my tax would be refunded as soon as I submitted my order number and my tax exemption certificate. Today I receive a response to those documents telling me that Apple no longer accepts tax exemption forms of any kind. I have their email from a week ago telling me how and what to send to get a refund.
Obviously I'll love the equipment like I always have, but I wouldn't whiz on their staff if they were on fire.

Jim,
Please do not in any way think my "kickback" comment was anything more than just a poor attempt at humor. Never in a million years would I ever doubt your integrity. And I already love the "II". It will take a little while to build the muscle memory, but the results are already spectacular. No second guessing here at all!

I am certainly not in the same league you are in JIm. When I called Apple Customer Service 4 years ago about the M1 MBP I was expecting the Apple associate to tell me I needed the $3k MBP to do photos. I told him what I was doing and he talked me into the 13" for about $1300. I continue to use it today and it is fast enough for my use. He was great. I guess times have changed.

Yes… I am buried and atm, learning via trial by 🔥… Gotta get somewhat up to speed, as I’ve been asked to shoot my cousins’ wedding on the morning of the 30th 🤪🤪🤪…
I need focus system help… I’m so used to Back Button Focus and choosing my focus points. 9 squares isn’t much. Not a clue on eye tracking stuff yet.
And, apparently I now need a new Processing Unit as these are .CR3 files
On Black Friday, we bought into the ½ off deal on CC, but all of our machines are pre-2018 🙈🙈, so time to go shopping for the other half of the equation.
I didn't think that at all Buddy, and believe me, I'd love a little cash every month from Canon Nikon is big on free equipment and perks, I think Sony does a little of that as well. The most Canon will do is put you on a speaking tour and generally they choose NYC photographers for those gigs.
You all know me well enough to know I wouldn't encourage you to spend a dime one something that I don't really believe in, but I'd take anything they would like to send me for endorsing gear that works as advertised and that I love. Your humor was great and taken just as you intended.
Nothing like a baptism by fire James, good luck! Truthfully, I haven't used eye controlled focus much. the tracking is so good on it's own. Just set people, continuous tracking and eye recognition and you will be fine. Use your back button if the camera has locked on to the person you want it to snd it will stay with that focal point, release it and move your focus point to someone else, then lock on them with the back button. The focus point will remain locked where you have it as long as you are holding the back button.
Good soggy morning Ray, Yup, that was the service of old. My visit to the Apple Store was so absurd it was almost comical. The girl that was "helping" me even said at one point that the small business rep couldn't come out now because she was going on break. Who lets a $10K order walk out the door without so much as an attempt to save it? Now they have added insult to injury, but they still got the order. Good news, I guess, is that this computer should last me til I hang up the cameras.

Might want to reconsider that remark Jim!!!!
If someone is burning, anything wet would be thankful!
In combat, the mortar tubes would become so hot that they would "lock up". Men would cool them off by "whizzing" on them!
WE all know it is a joke! No harm no foul!!
Happy New Year ALL!

Dipped my toe back in Canon water, sort of. Just bought a used R5 to convert to an 850nm infrared camera to go with the EF 16-35 f4 L IS. I have a 24MP Sony A7III converted, but wanted a higher resolution body. High resolution Sony and Nikon mirrorless bodies show very strong banding after IR conversion due to the type of sensor AF they use. So the R5 is the ticket!
Mike and I have been discussing the possibility of DJI releasing a new Mavic 4 Pro drone. The rumors are starting to get pretty detailed. The current Mavic 4 is really an amazing little machine. Sometimes it's so good that the images from it look like renderings, case in point...............
