p.15 #1 · Nikon 14-24mm tested on Canon 5D/1Ds III

One more question, if my use of this lens would be landscapes, would I be better off with this lens or the CZ Distagon 21 2.8 (21mm is my most used focal length for landscapes?) Is the IQ differential noticable between these two? I'd be using it on a 5D.

Last question, would I see better IQ from a 14-24 on a 5D or on a 300D?

Thank you,

Adam

I'd wait for hubsand's upcoming test (mentioned above) before making a decision. The 14-24 may prove to be a better value and more versatile on a 5D.

That test was done on a crop body. Would have been nice to see a full frame test.

Currently available for shipping, or currently available for order? Has anyone received one?

A high quality adapter with this little device that's been mentioned might not be a bad (and inexpensive) short term solution if one has the means to make one:

According to an email I rec'd from Mark/16-9 on 1/23, "...early orders (placed before January 4th) should now be landing in mailboxes during the second week of February, with the remainder arriving during the third and final weeks of that month."

Cheers!

Just uploaded the first pictures of the Nikon 14-24mm G used via the new Nikon G-EFadaptor on the Canon 5D. No mirror clearance issues, AF confirm checks out OK and registration seems OK, too: though I'm still looking into fine tuning it.

husband,

Is there any way we could see FF shots from the Nikon @ 21mm, vs the Distagon, that are NOT 100% crops? The obvious question (for me at least) is if the Zeiss superiority is really a factor for non pixel-peepers.

I would of course prefer the flexibility of the Nikon.

Adam, that's exactly what I want to know, hence my question above.

There's no question that the Zeiss is crisper on a 100% crop, but what does that mean?

Based solely on those tests, I think the Nikon has better color saturation, but I've seen stunning landscape shots done with the Zeiss that have color for days. I HATE 100% crop comparisons.

The other issue is filters. I assume you know that the Zeiss takes 82mm and the Nikon doesn't take them at all, yes? That one thing has stopped me cold, I wuld already own the Nikon if it took filters. It's making me nuts.

It would be nice to have 14mm, but then that's why God invented pano heads. (g)
