Actually, if enough of us contact canon professional services and communicate our frustrations, there really is a chance that Canon will act. If we want someone at Canon to read this thread, we should each email the printable version to our Canon rep/CPS.

And BTW, this is what Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn had to say about Al Gore and the internet:
"[A]s the two people who designed the basic architecture and the core protocols that make the Internet work, we would like to acknowledge VP Gore's contributions as a Congressman, Senator and as Vice President. No other elected official, to our knowledge, has made a greater contribution over a longer period of time. Last year the Vice President made a straightforward statement on his role. He said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet." We don't think, as some people have argued, that Gore intended to claim he "invented" the Internet. Moreover, there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. We feel it is timely to offer our perspective. As far back as the 1970s Congressman Gore promoted the idea of high speed telecommunications as an engine for both economic growth and the improvement of our educational system. He was the first elected official to grasp the potential of computer communications to have a broader impact than just improving the conduct of science and scholarship. Though easily forgotten, now, at the time this was an unproven and controversial concept."

The High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 which effectively made the internet public, is commonly referred to as 'The Gore Bill' because he made it. So as he said, he really did 'take the initiative in creating the internet', no matter how often people want to misquote him.

I think that is a good idea and was thinking the same at the weekend.

I am going to e-mail my local CPS rep this evening with a link to the post.

I really do wonder how many people have so far voiced their issues to CPS reps etc.

I have just about had enough of the silence from Canan and the fact that I paid £3000 for their top end camera which cannot deliver in bright sunlight.

Whilst I shoot aviation and not athletes the AI servo issues are just as apparent.

More people need to contact their CPS reps and advise of their displeasure with the situation, how do we know that Canon are aware of the level of the issue?

If this thread disappears into oblivion, I sure hope someone starts another when they have a success story with their AF servo going from bad to good.

(I wish this were still a "sticky")

Umm I thought this was a photo forum and not a political one. However as an outsider,Canadian, you guys have a warped way of electing out the best politicans and keeping some pretty dammed bad ones.....we aren't that much better either!

I can't believe all of you have not done this yet...
But what I find more unbelievable is that you all still have the camera..
Wrighting or calling your Canon rep will get noticed if enough of you do it.. But if you really want results.. Then all of you that have a bad camera need to send it back and get your money back untill this problem is fixed..
If Canon gets several thousand cameras back and loose that money they thought they had sold. They will take action and the problem will be solved quicker..
As it stands now a few posts on this or any message board will not be seen by Canon nor will it get any results..
If you must keep your Camera that doesn't work properlly then send the letter..
Or how about someone start an electric petition and spread it around all the photo sites.. Then send that to Canon..

Thats a great idea. If enough of us do it, then they will, at the very least, have no excuse let for ignoring us.

A fellow photographer friend of mine finally got his Mk3 after a 6 week wait. I told him to cancel the order until gets fixed or just hold on to his mk2. He ignored my warnings and is now constantly saying I should have listened to you. Problems started within ten minutes of getting the camera. He went to attach his trusty 24-70, held the camera opening down, took off the body cap, and the focusing screen landed on his floor. After reinstalling it took a few shots of his kids playing ball hockey( yup we are Canadian) ever shot was out of focus! EEGAD!!
So now it's going back, and probably for good too. I'm so disappointed in them I can't fathom what could be going on over at Canon. I have lost faith!

I have no idea what the serial number was, and I guess I will never know, he took it back today for a refund. The only thing I know for sure is that it was firmware 1.1.0

I have been a proponent of this camera since I got it 1 month ago (serial 533xxx). However, this past week, I got the Err 99, which did not resolve despite my best efforts to re-start everything, try different lenses, change batteries, change CF cards, wave a magic wand over it, sing mantras to the Camera gods...Needless to say, I was not happy. The rubberized grip also seemed to be pealing from the CF card door edge. AI Servo was off a bit on recent shoots (my camera seems to do well after warming up a bit, not as good when it's been turned off for a while). 1 shot tended to work fine.

Anyways, my camera, along with this list of complaints, went back to Canon for service. I'll report back when I find out in what state my camera is returned to me....hopefully with working innards, no more Err 99's, and better focus.

this sounds familiar : I had exactly the same problem when taking the cap of the camera the first time : the focusing screen fell out...
the canon technician said this happens 1 in a 1000 times during transport.
Canon fixed it for me, putting a new screen

Wonder how long should I warm up the camera. It seems like the Al Servo is really temperature sensitive. Learn something new about the Mk3 everyday .

This is a link to a Sept 27 1DIII AF issues update on Rob Galbraith's site:

No hard news, but encouraging nonetheless.
