I don't believe the D300 will be offered alongside the D200s. Trying to hit every price point is dangerous. Olympus do it with their point-and-shoots, and there are models that don't sell. There's too little a jump from an updated D200 to a 'rumourware' D300.

On a different note, for all the folks who are going to be angry/confused/emotionally wounded when the D300 gets anounced this week when they just bought a D200: if Nikon anounces a new body this week, at best you'd be able to have one after Xmas, if we are to judge by the length of the backorder list and the non-existent production of the D200, 18-200VR and a few other things when they were first released.
So enjoy what you have. If you do feel that you need to upgrade, I will gladly dispose of all that redundant equipment in an environmentally friendly way. Just PM me and I'll tell you where to send your D200 duds.

I just hope nikon finally introduces a fullframe camera. Ive always liked nikon but have stuck to Canon for now due to the fullframe offering, but i'd love to see some nikon full frames come out. I don't care what anyone says, fullframe really makes a huge difference in my opinon.

And I guess that is the difference between a Nikon and a canon user!
I would prefer sharpness, better use and range of my lenses, a true to life skin tone, an easy to use functional menu and an image that has some resemblance of a film look than well...... a canon!
The only reason I would buy a 35mm sensored Nikon was if it came with high speed crop!
Do you think with the rumoured live screen that we will be able to shoot silent or close to it

aparently a crop version (1.5) of a 5D would be the same as a d2h 4mp. so if the rumered D3 is a ff with crop, then it would need to be 24mp for it to be a d3h with 8mp equivlent have i got that arse ways?

Press conference is supposed to be between 1PM-4PM JST tomorrow (23rd August). I hope its not someone else using his name posting all this.

I just cant see a D300... nikon has a good track record with updated bodies, D2h, D70, D2x D40 were all updated... even the D70 was retro-fitted via firmware to be a D70s.. and based on the D200 reception and sales, I doubt there will be a D300

When you crop a frame to a 2/3 crop (i.e. 1.5x FOV), the area drops by a factor of 2.25.
36x24 = 864
24x16 = 384
Therefore a 24MP 35mm format sensor can provide a 10.5MP DX format crop.

Warning - a little humor ahead. Since all the speculation about August 23rd being the announcement date of some really fine Nikon cameras - it just happens to be my anniversary date. So, like any normal guy I proclaimed to the wife - Honey it's a SIGN . I don't think she went for it. Can't blame a guy for trying right?

A while back there was a review of the S5 in Popular Photography or something and the headline was, 'Wedding Gift.' I showed it to my fiancee excitedly and she just rolled her eyes at me.
