I think it's far more likely to show up in the D200 replacement.
Currious, why would you think that? At 10fps that wounds like a sports cam to me.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks ... I was not the requester but I'm glad you did.
However, a thread with a link to review article on the new Sony sensor is hardly rumor and should have remained seperate. The sensor at least is NOT hyperware.

Nowhere in the Sony link did I read they would be supplying the shutter/mirror assemblies with it (among countless other things), so there's a lot more parts involved in achieving 10FPS besides a sensor with broad enough data pipelines.

True enough. If Nikon uses the sensor, then maybe they will use it in both the vaporware D300 and D3H but with different fps.

By thursday we´ll know for sure, probably before due to all the web chatter that is bound to happen when something is coming along.
Personally i´m enjoying FF with the second hand 1DsmkII i bought a couple of days ago but thinking about it in a sober fashion there´s really little or no advantage this camera brings forth due to it´s FF. Other than putting a smile on any oldtimers face of course. Somehow i think Fujifilm (S5) got the right idea. Developing the dynamic range or otherwise anything that will contribute to sharper images and "smarter" AF systems sounds like a good way to go. Gazzilons of megapixels (1DsmkIII) serves very few, at least now that we have reached a level were there really is plenty of pixels for most uses.
I´m curious, the one thing that really stands out for me personally when comparing the 1DsmkII to my Nikon bodies is the extremly bright large viewfinder. Surely there has to be a way to come around this without adding FF?

My experience is the exact opposite I find the nikon d2x VF better than the 1DMKII and the 5D and tho smaller than the 1DsMKII just as bright and the matte is better by far than all the others

Bottomline is that this is all speculation until we hear the official press release from Nikon. I say that there will be ONE major DSLR announcement. D300 would be major, but as I said, I can't see it replacing the D200 just yet. So, the D3 will be the major announcement.
Why is everyone thinking the D300 will *replace* the D200? Maybe it'll be an extra body placed pricewise between the D200 and D3x/h price point. Currently there is a quite a gap between the price of the D200 and D2Xs/h. Can't imagine the specs because the D200 is already as featured as the D2xs, but pricewise I can see a D300 body around $3000 would make sense to add to the existing range cameras.

Agreed. In fact, I conjecture that we'll see a lineup like this:
D200s -> D300 -> D3 (high frame rate, high ISO) -> Top model (MP king)
The D200s and D300 would bracket the 40D in price and feature-set, leaving the D80 and D200s to do the same to the K10D and its successor. In this way Nikon segments the market and offers various price points without directly competing against the 40D, K10D, E-3...
I think a D200s would use parts from the older pro models (Cam-2000 AF maybe?) and other models in the lineup (D40x JPEG engine etc.), allowing Nikon to increase return from already sunk R&D costs while providing room for the upcoming price slashing. Another reason I think a D200s is likely is Fujifilms use of the D200 body for the S5 Pro. Given Nikon's oft-stated focus on 'rationalizing' their manufacturing processes (read their Investor Relations), I'd be surprised if they ran a line only for Fujifilm.
Now, I know I've taken some flak for supporting the rumored D300/D3 specs, but I think it’s a wise move if you’re trying to sell to integrated media houses. Having the same AF system in the D300 and D3 means that staff can move from one to the other without having to relearn everything. Also, having the D3 support 1.5x cropping means that you can maintain a mixed DX/FF lineup and not worry about matching lenses to bodies.
With the D3/D300 what you’re selling organizations is the flexibility to customize their kit to the situation at hand: Light but rugged for most news situations; Traditional form factor (i.e. integrated grip) with extended high ISO capabilities for sports photographers etc. And, no caveats.
I’m extremely curious – as I’m sure everyone here is – to see Thursday roll around!

Hey John, have you seen the 1D MkIII's new matte screen? It's actually quite nice, and your comment made me remember how incredibly crappy the 30D's focusing screen is. Now that you led me down this avenue, it might just be enough of a reason to ditch the 30D and...

A friend of mine in Japan just e-mailed me and said, "There will be an announcement for D3 this Thursday. I am not (at this point) impressed with D3. So, I ordered a Canon 1Ds Mark III. It will be about 8,000 dollars, too."

Awesome.... that's GREAT!! I'm not impressed with the 1DsMkIII to be perfectly honest... I was hoping for a 36x48 sensor. I'm not satisfied....I want more, and then when they give me more, I want even more, because I NEED it all. I need EVERYTHING. I want I want I want.... Just give me what I need and I will stop whining.

I want nothing but more sleep because business is booming for me. My $1,500 D2H won't come off my hand...It keeps going and going and going. Ive tried everything to realease it from my hand but it won't break free. Maybe I am becoming the first bionic cameraman

that's how i'm feeling quite often. i want it all, the latest and the greatest. no matter how large, heavy and unhandable it becomes, as long as i have it. And as long as i can look out to get something even better
Then i look at my D70 files and i think... hey those look fine. And i even have more to chose from right there in my little nikon cabinet. wait there is a D2x woho... thats great too hm. check that shelf out: 10 lenses, man i really should be satisfied ... So now i have to chose what lenses i will take with me on my holiday. what a luxury
