those specs where already posted in the D3 thread, nevertheless i'm interested in that D300. a nice one imo... but i wonder what the D3x will be like. cool stuff

agreed. there only needs to be one rumor thread here, there's no sense in clogging up the forum with 20 threads about the same thing. PLEASE take the time to look at previous threads before posting.

Couldn't the processing engine have normal and 'high-usage' modes? In high-usage mode you'd run the processing engine's clock significantly faster, thus draining the batteries at a high clip; so, to keep 'total possible shots' at a reasonable level, you'd only offer 8 fps if a battery grip were attached.

Why not? I expect a lot of PJs would welcome the weight reduction wouldn't they? Especially if they didn't need 8fps?

well since all signs point to a new AF system for the pro bodies, maybe CAM2000 in the D200 successor would be possible. personally, i think CAM1300 from the F5 would be a better idea, but then again, if the D200 had CAM2000 i'd probably own one right now.

The D2 bodies are already pretty light in my opinion. Just ask the 1DM3 shooters who are praising the new battery and svelte size compared to their 1DM2 bodies. We've been fortunate to have lean and mean pro bodies since the D2h release. Retrograde hamstringing of the H body AF is not going to save any weight or make any PJ's happy.
The H model should reflect the state-of-the-art in AF technology; more so than any other model, including the X. This is the body where AF is very important and megapixels are not.

I'm with Zachs, those specs are pure garbage. It's still questionable whether Nikon will make anything full frame at all, and now they're supposedly gonna pump out the H and X as fullframe? nonsense. And a 24-70 F/2.8? Uhh they have one already, it's called the 28-70mm.

STOP THE DAMN RUMOR CRAP. PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD!
This is the same crap info listed over and over and over again.
There is no way they would give the H, THE SPORTS CAMERA the same focus engine as the prosumer camera. There is now way they can make a grip add more power...this isn't like the old film days. The limitations are by the CPU and shutter, not by the power of batteries. If they make the sports camera in a 35mm format, I think that would be a horrible decision as our 200mm 2.8 would go from a 300 2.8 back to a 200 which is NOT good. 1.5X is GOOD on the H.

So there will be Full-Frame D3 with 51 Af points with 15 cross points
and they(D3 and D300) both have LIVE-view with a possible contrast
based AF. In NIKON term FF might mean 1.1 factor FX-format.
D3 will have 12Mp NIKON made_CMOS (LBCAST?!) censor,
with 9 continuous shooting capabiity and 11 shootings with DX-cropping mode.
The possibly nice feature is you can set ISO 200~6,400, Lo1 = ISO100 or
Hi2 = ISO 256,000!! No mistyping(sp?)
I'm not sure how many MB output they produce in RAW mode,
it only says the new cameras have 12 mega pixcel censors.
It's really illogical to make a FF sports camera which has only 12MP. You will only have 5MP with the DX crop mode, which is no improvement over the 4MP D2H(s)
If that's really the case for the upcoming D3(h), it's doomed to be slaughtered by Canon 1DMkIII provided that Canon fixes the AI SERVO issues with MkIII.
I also doubt the ISO25600 on the rumored "Nikon" made D3 sensor. To be fair, Nikon does not have a long history in making CMOS DSLR sensors. It's unlikely Nikon suddenly comes up with something that will simply blow away the rivals (Canon..SONY...Kodak...Fuji..)

I would never buy a full frame sports camera. Suddenly my lenses have 1.5x less reach? No thanks. And 12 friggin' megapixels? No thanks again. And the D300 and D3H having the same AF system also seems bogus, especially with the sports model being full frame and the prosumer having a crop? Bah, sounds completely fabricated to me. But what do I know...
p.7 #10 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
Rumors. This is exactly what happens every couple of years. We have indications of what is coming but we do not know for sure.
Now that a new professional camera from Canon is out logic says that a new professional body by Nikon should debut soon. What model, what type? I do not know.
We also know that the D200 is ready for an update or an upgrade but still nobody can predict if or when it will happen.
Rumors but nobody knows for sure.

Nikon will probably end up like Minolta or Olympus...or a Leica(hope not), but I think Nikon will lose the dslr battle one day against Canon. It shows...that Nikon is outsourcing its production on their cameras to "cut costs" ~ they probably are outsourcing their dslr designs on other companies from China or India .

no, they will NOT overclock their CPU to spill out 8fps in a prosumer body. Its like expecting the F100 to compete with the F5. Thats BS alone. Reguardless, no manufacturer thinks like that. That would only lead to CPU overheaing issues and self destruction. This is why dell locks their mobos down so that you can't access the overclocking features that i'm sure are embedded, just locked out.
And as a photojournalist, the last thing I shoot with is my D200. If the D1H had the internal recording feature that the D2H has, I would only use D1H's for work... WHY? b/c no newspaper/magazines NEEED super hi-res shots. The reason the F5, D1H, D2H, 1D, 1D MkIIn are so popular is b/c they are big ass bricks. They can take a beating, they are solid, and they are easy use with long heavy lenses due to basic design. The D200 will destroy your wrists if you shoot like a PJ. Usually we don't get the luxury of Monopods/tripods and have to be on the go like crazy.

It's not "overclocking". It's enabling multiple power modes, a very common feature on mobile cores. You build your chip (CPU, processing engine, whatever) to support frequency scaling. Under low load the clock speed is lowered, increasing battery life, while under high load the clock speed is increased to complete the jobs faster.
I believe there is a market for both models (as described in the rumor spec), but since I can't back that opinion up, I won't belabor it.

I agree. I especially like the extra reach of the crop mode on the D2Xs, I use it a lot when shooting sports. Add the masking and metering improvements, and the 6 MP, the D2Xs is a very versatile camera. I have a very long way to go before I ever master it anyway. Now, an AF-S 14-24/2.8 G would definately get my attention if it was in the same league as the 17-35. Sure would be a nice fit with the 28-70.
p.7 #17 · Rumours: D3 something/D200 upgrades and technologies
Some of the rumours out there are ridiculous. Knowing Nikon's past releases, and seeing the almost 4 year gap between the D100 and D200. Nikon isn't like Canon that bangs out a new camera every year and a half to replace the previous one.
D200 is not even 2 years old yet. I highly doubt there'll be a D300. Best case scenario, IF they update it, it'll be a D200s with improved noise performance, 3-inch LCD, but certainly no increase in megapixels. The D200 sells well as it is. What I do forsee is a very nice price drop on the D200 to aggressively compete with the 40D.
Now, a D3 is due. I do beleive it'll be a D3H, full frame with the high speed crop mode to allow the use of DX lenses on the body. 10-12MP and 8-10 FPS.
As for lenses. It does make sense to have a 24-75/2.8 to complement the new camera on the release. Some people say "well they already have the 28-70" which is true...BUT, look at Canon, they updated their 28-70/2.8L with the highly succesful 24-70L way back in 2002, so in order to compete, Nikon is due to release this lens.
Bottomline is that this is all speculation until we hear the official press release from Nikon. I say that there will be ONE major DSLR announcement. D300 would be major, but as I said, I can't see it replacing the D200 just yet. So, the D3 will be the major announcement.

I don't know if anyone else posted this, but in the September Pop Photo there is a photo taken with a 14-28 mm f2.8 D. I thought it was a misprint. Maybe this one is real. I hope so.

Not full frame but very promising! I know you crazy people love your Nikon and are ok with the noise performances but it's nice to hear that it will be even lower!
