I wouldn't worry about the quality of the photos over in that Canon thread. Everyone knows it's the person holding the camera, if more talented people own Canon gear, then so be it. Canon equipment has been much better suited for sports, until November anyway.
You can see some of my favorite Nikon shots here, the first three taken with my "old" D80, while the last seven are taken with my "new" D1x. All of the infrared shots here were taken with my old D50.
Every shot I take with my Nikon is a joy to me. My best... I don't know. One of my best... maybe. One of my favorites... yes!You can make up you own minds.

Two hours well spent looking at the pictures though Pavel. Tell me people haven't gotten some good ideas from seeing these photos (even one's you might not be fond of have given me ideas!)

I have a Nikkor 70-300VR as well I just haven't had the time to play with it much. I hope the IQ will be as good as yours.
