I concur. That's amazingly dimensional. Did you do some post voodo with fill light/black point or high lights and shadows? Or dare I say is that fairly straight? School me please.

Wow. Amazing clarity... although I admit I am having trouble counting the pores in the guy's cheeks! Fantastic shot.

Hi Jimmy - it was pretty straight. I chose a shaded area that allowed me enough light on the face without causing the sitter to squint at all.

Shot raw, the PP was in Lightroom 2 Beta - convert to mono, added some clarity, upped the contrast a little and then some post-crop vignette. That's it - the rest was done by the D3 and 85/1.4 magic.

Interesting, I'll have to invest in a shady tree as well...

Darn it that 85 on FX is magic. I'm really liking Lightroom Beta 2 how about you? I always forget they moved the crop tool though.

I called you Jimmy before - sorry.

It's lovely on the D3 isn't it - just about perfect. I think the Beta 2 is superb as well, and it's pulling me away from Aperture.

Some from today - same settings and location but quite different light today

And here's me - taken by Steve (the photo above, a 5D shooter and very decent photographer)

Ahoy the speccy fool!

don't worry about the Jimmy thing I'm used to it. I've come to believe certain web browsers actually display it as that!

That combo does look just about perfect, fairly awe inspiring in fact. Glad to hear someone else is liking the new Lightroom as much as I am.

Cheers!

Definitely worked to great effect there Ray. That's what you call "active" active d-lighting...
