Tons of info, but useless unfortunately

Mirror lockup improved? How?

One can set a custom/personal function [cust. & per funct now combined] so that mirror lockup can be available from selection.

So one can make a 'profile' for say sports, studio, portrait and mirror lock up can be part of it. ~ neat

Sorry for my ignorance regarding Canon 1d´s...i´m left with no options but to listen to those who are Canon users (Nikon user myself, considering to switch). It is my impression that the mirror lockup function is very cumbersome to use on the Canon 1d´s, buried deep deep down in menu´s...

I went into my store yesterday to get an update on when they will be delivered. I guess it will vary from country to country but originally it was supposed to be delviered on May 10 and now I hear it is going to be May 24 in the USA. My shop guy said that they are only expecting one or two a week initially and I am No.10 on the waiting list for this shop. Sounds like there is a huge number of photogs getting this body - I am really looking forward to it.

Right, in the menu, no switch at the side of the camera, like the older Nikon [at least] ~ can't remember my D1x now ~ except that I had to engage mirror lockup, even on a tripod, to get sharp pictures with slow shutter speeds ~

The mirror lockup is still in the menu but there are 6 priority settings that can be made into a unique menu, mirror lock up is one of them ~ on the MK3 ~ therefore, it can be the very first item accessed in the menu and/or can be the very first item to show up once the menu button is pressed ~ it is not by default it's a custom setup ~ still extremely neat.

Use mirror lock up a lot ~ no problem pick it as your priority response to menu command ~ one button, select, done!

Sorry if this has been posted.

Release in Japan is scheduled for May 20th, price 498,000 yen, which is about $4,250, although some of the online stores are listing it at around 445,000, which after the math is around $3800.

Off-topic- I have heard many people say this forum loads slowly. I have never waited, in fact it is pretty fast for me. I suggest you all move to Japan!

You can find it cheaper than that in Europe if you know where to look.

Example of a known trustworthy store :http://www.digitalwonderworld.de/product_info.php/cPath/85_100_178/products_id/9594 - 3.797,00EUR

3.797,00EUR without 15% VAT (Luxembourg VAT) is 3227,45 EUR, and that is around 4,388.14 USD.

And I know at least another store that without VAT it ends up even cheaper, the price is the same but the VAT applied is the German vat, 19%, so… 3070EURO in the end +/-.

3797 without 15% = 3301,74

and this is the cheapest one i can find:
http://digitalecamera.nu/index.php?c=product&cat=0&scat=28&detail=3748&br=8

€ 3719.00 ( € 3125.21 Excl BTW/VAT)

Sweden are normally very expensive. But about every well-known photo shop have the MKIII for about 3150 - 3250 Euro without VAT. 25% more if you include the VAT.
It's exactly the same price as the MKII or MKII N when they started to sell those cameras

Hi

Even in the filmtime people sad that Canon had a difficult MLU function.I had the Nikon F100, didnt even have MLU (all Canon had MLU), only Nikon F5 had MLU, but it was rather cumbersome to use, had to manually flip it up and down every time You took a shoot. I bought the Canon EOS 1V and EOS 3 instead, coupled a two sec selftimer to the MLU. This setup took about 4 sec and was used a hole day for landscape photographing, very easy to use.

So for a hole day shooting landscape with my Canon 1Dmark2 I set the camera on 2-sec selftimer, change in the menu to MLU, about 4-sec setup, not so cumbersome. I press the shutter, the mirror flips up, and after 2sec the shutter goes and the mirror flips down, goes automatically.

But some photographers might use MLU in 5 min and then shooting birds or so, so they nmight need a faster way to get MLU, a dedicated MLU button, I dont need that.

Best regards from Sweden

http://www.fotoboom.com/pagina2.php?id=15669

But not the cheapest in Europe.the Swiss guys still are around 5.000 CHF, what means about 3.100€ (lees than) = $4.100 !! I don´t know if they are going to mantain this price when the stocks are available !!

OK, Jokes aside ...

I think I have already posted, but here it is the price watch link for Swiss again :

http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?a=109680&SID=aca737c2ce3c7b0df16d1eadb4ae44c6

Be aware that they only shell in the Swiss territory, they don´t send outside. Some colleagues have already sent several e-mails to them and the answer was always the same: no send outside. Some of this on-line retailers has also shops open and they are spread along the different Swiss Cantons. I am interested in those because I have a friend & a bed available at Zürich, so maybe my next summer holidays ...., but still I don´t believe that this is going to be the final price at all. Anyway, the 12 first retailers on line are under 5200 CHF, what it is a very good price (< 3.175€; $4.250).

Exactly. A bird can dance a jig, learn a foreign chirpage, put two fledglings thru college and move the whole family to a better neighborhood in two seconds.

I want that thing to fire "NOW!", when I say so. ;-)

I just checked with the Tallyn's site. The preorder price has changed to $4499. I guess they couldn't keep the lower price.

Just talked to one of the guys at Vistek. Canon Canada still hasn't released an official date/price yet. He said that Canon should be done the finalization of design work by now and they're just building up inventory. He was suggesting a possible June ship date.

Jim thanks for linking the Canon Europe videos. While very dry, they did provide interesting tidbits I didn't know about the camera.

The nice little improvements like an indicator beep and LCD warning when opening the battery compartment before images have been completely written was a much needed change.

The ability to define 6 custom menu items for the myMenu tab for quick access will also be very useful.

It is also interesting to hear that the sensor dust cleaning system is not a straight port of the 400D one but an evolution of the system.

And finally ISO safety shift in Av and Tv modes will be very welcome.

Are you planning to update your "Availability/Price" page? Lots of changes )even Tallyn changed the price)
