Not know what an NDA means got him in trouble with Leica and his pre-release posting of images from the M8.
Met with my Canon rep today. He advised me not to wait a month before buying a 5D. He said that next month or this month, didn't matter, there's no reason to wait.

I don't think the 5D will see an upgrade at PMA. If I had to bet, I would bet on the 30D and the 1DsMKII getting upgrades this time around.

Fits in with the guy who said that Ann whatever her name was was using something half the size of the 1Ds, and must mean Li-on batteries - so it would mean a change for those invested in them , and some incompaiblity with the old series.
How would you feel about using a battery grip, instead of built-in?

The problems that he is referring to is the issue of achieving acceptable resolution from 35mm sized sensors. Erwin is living in the 1990s. Perhaps he doesn't realise that these cameras will outresolve MF film images. Or perhaps he doesn't realise that 99% of photographers will never print larger than 8x12.

some people think that going to a larger imaging area is a good way to keep the noise down when dslrs start capturing dmfb size images. i think that Erwin Puts is dissing the idea that Canon needs to stuff 645 size chip into an EOS body.

Ummm. Which cameras are you talking about. One thing is quite certain, these cameras do not out "resolve" MF film images. In fact, there is some discussion that they might not even outresolve some 35mm film (the 1Ds2 might get there). But, of course, resolution isn't everything.

And these are the 99% that are not buying 1D's or using MF film, and might not even be using a 5D. If all you are printing is 8x12's then a 8-10mp APS sensor is all you would ever need. But so what?
Putting the 5D Pro quality sensor in a 1V Pro quality body would give you a D2x with FF, better IQ and higher iso performance at the same price point.. Provided Digit III can do 8 or more fps with those files. Sounds plausible to me.
Also a great strategic move as Canon maintains the lead in the PJ/Sports market. Reinforces FF as the new Pro standard, forcing others further behind as they try to catch up.
I'm starting to wonder if Canon taking the RAW mode and fast lens out of the G7 might be because they are thinking about a smaller EOS body. Of course it is the EOS lenses that are the real size issue.
I wonder if Canon would bring something out ala the Sigma, maybe with a real viewfinder. I wonder with-out a mirror box forcing the use of retro-focus lenses, how small could you get a 15-70mm lens for an APS-C sized sensor?

I would have thought a lot of sports pros would be less than thrilled to find that they have lost their 1.25 crop - all the lenses thev've been workig with are going to not work the way they are used to for a start.
I've got the feeling that Erwin may have some of the info, but he is not stating all of it right, or misinterpreting.

anyone who doubts that Erwin Puts has pondered the relative merits of 35mm digital spawn vs mf spawn should read http://www.imx.nl/photosite/leica/M8_6/m8_6.html which he posted on feb 8th.
he rates the Hasselblad H3D 39 Meg sensor over the Leica M8 10 Meg sensor as having a 1.2 advantage factor! and snoop around his site and read how he likes his 5d. it's free.
If Erwin Puts review is correct then Sports Photographers will not be missing their 1.25 crop factor because the pixel size of the new 1D sensor will be exactly the same as their old one.
They're getting exactly the same shots they used to get with the old 1D IIN with some more info around the frame.
