All you guys salivating with your wallets full of cash held open just hoping Canon would announce another camera that you can upgrade to. Talk about a manufacturer having their marketing done just right. They will bleed out their cameras one at a time with everyone jumping on the next camera not wanting to be left behind. They will not blow their entire R&D effort on just one big upgrade. They will want to get every dollar out of your pockets as they slowly come out with new features. I'm sure they already have new prototypes out for the 2010 Photokina, but won't release that camera until they had released the previous 10 versions....Show more →
Yes, you're right. I see it now. It's all a big conspiracy by evil geniuses. We're all fools and you're the guy who's figured it all out.
Can I send you your 2 cents via paypal, or you take a check?
Photokina 2002: Canon introduces the EOS 1Ds
Photokina 2004: Canon introduces the EOS 1Ds Mk II
Photokina 2006: Canon introd... Erhhm, no, Canon has no high-end camera to introduce
In general, people tend to want something to long for and drool over. I admit I do. So all this talk about what there may be, and then there's nothing big, that's a disappointment. No, I know that's not rational, but whoever said that this has to do with ratio/reason?
For me, I do need more resolution. I don't want to lug around MF cameras ever again and if anyone ever spent much time scanning medium format chromes you would know the resolution is higher than any current 35mm DSLR. For about half of my work - I need that detail. For my personal fine art and most of my lifestyle work - the 5D and 1Ds Mk2 are fine.
As far as the M8 goes; The M8 may be the ultimate lightweight travel camera without compromise. I had budgeted for the new Canon pro body which is a no-show... and the Leica was next on my list. I am not compaing the two as far as features. They are very different cameras indeed.
As far as dynamic range and color depth - that goes without saying that we need that at a level equal to the MF cameras also. Along with high resolution WA lenses too.
Maybe I am asking too much from Canon, but it's what I need.

You may need it, but Canon is not intentionally holding anything back from you. Your 1DsM2 is far better than any other DSLR you can buy from anyone; the fact that it isn't good enough says you need more than a DSLR.
I think the problem is that we've got used to some real technological or price breakthroughs in the past few years from Canon - 2006, not so much.
30D - a refresh of the 20D
400D - couple of more MP and anti-dust, largely to catch up to some impressive competition.
Lenses - well ok, there's a couple of new ones out there, and some improved old ones - not a bad showing from what is afterall the biggest player in the market.
Canon isn't really offering great value at the moment - you've all just got used to paying more in the digital age. The market is still maturing.
But Canon did (probably) and still does in many repsects, offer the best equipment, and is making you pay for it.
Until others catch up and start eating into Canon's share then there's no incentive for them to offer you better value - though if it's wise it shouldn't wait for Sony and Samsung to really get into gear.
I have a feeling they have to be holding back for something though - there's got to be something big on the way.

Dyslexia? Presumably you mean retarded.
Bit of an unfortunate mix-up, considering the nature of your rant.

Personally I'm at work waiting for some info to come my way as it should anytime now - they may get a little pissed off if I walk out to take some pictures and miss my deadline.

I agree that we've become used to paying a lot (too much) for cameras and increasingly high prices for lenses. I think competition, any serious competition, would help but there's no one that can compete right now and that's bad for us. Nikon is a disappointment to me but we don't need to go there.
Canon has also slowed the pace and we're all just speculating on why that's happening. The 30d (snoozer as a warmed over 20d), the 400d (ho hum, but good for entry level beginer's camera), and the 1/5 series replacements, who knows? I think that the reason there's no new 1 series is that it's simply not ready. Manufacturing problems, last minute changes to the specs, or some other factor out of their control is more likely than just deliberately milking the market (I could be wrong but I don't think so).
Was the 22MP (or whatever) sensor yield too low to make enough to satisfy the market? Was the dust bunnie killer added at the last minute? Did they find a way to improve DR and wanted to include it in the new camera? Was there an internal battle over whether they should put a print button on the new camera or not? Was there a Digic III production problem? There are so many possible answers and we may never know the truth.

Dear eabbadessa,
! Are you for real? What's it like to be RETARTED?
Please locate and identify yourself from the following diagram so that we may address you properly in the future:
In many ways it's a good thing Canon didn't release any high end cameras. None of us have to worry about spending lots of money on new gear for at least 7 or 8 months (announcement in Feb, ship Mar/April).
I think im the idiot because I was under the impression that this website was an infomational one not a bitch one..you guys are all caught up in the he said she said crap and your missing what these pages on this site are all about..YOU know what they are so stop acting like a BABY..........
