For those of you who are just too lazy to read 167 pages of accurate information, I thought I'd summarise exactly what we know about the upcoming releases this Photokina.
I've included only the facts - not wishful thinking.
Thanks, but with 1344 messages I don't have several hours to spend reading all of them ;-)
Yes I can wait for the show, I was just looking for the current working view.
I think the sleeper announcement will be the 1-series bodies being blended into one (at a bigger price than I can afford) and if any announcements come out in regard to the 5D, it's going be a price drop announcement making it more competitive with the latest announcements by other companies; Sigma and Nikon in particular.
Agreed, the chance of an updated 5D is zero. Besides, even if by miracle they announce one, there will no doubt be 'stock' issues anyway so would go with the current 5D, learn how to use it and get some excellent wedding shots later in the year!

You should have added your question to the current position of the rumour thread.....
But I agree there is not much chance of a new 5D at photokina.
Mark showed the name of the game once more, in a more graphical way than what Jeff did earlier: As soon as we have facts, we need to open a new thread, starting with a post of the fact = press release link.
Thus this current thread is doomed to stay permanently fact free. But isn't that exactly why we keep on hanging here?
Shortly after the rebates ended in Australia (July) I was independently told by 2 dealers in different states and a Canon employee that (a) the 5D will not be replaced this year and (b) Canon would introduce a 5D+lens rebate within a couple of months.
Several weeks ago a local dealer repeated the advice that the 5D would not be replaced but stated that the camera rebate would be re-introduced in the very near future. Sales in Australia have reportedly died since the rebate ended.
The rebate was re-introduced this week effective until 31 October.
I was told the 5D will have a rebate of $300 starting in October and will double is coupled with a lens purchase. I am waiting to see what lenses are included with this double rebate.
After two months of heavy field use of the 5D and seeing the results of thousands of images I could care less. I had no real problem with dust in some of the worst areas possible and after changing the lenses many times.
I heard from dpreview that canon will comes with 1Ds Mark III, not 1Ds Mark IIn, so with the 1D Mark IIn, does it possibly means last 1D 1.3x crop or 1D Mark IIN (read: 1D Mark II END) (consider canon would merge 1Ds and 1D into one body)
quote from dpreview forum: " I talked to a Canon dealer who said hes been testing the new 50mm L lens alongside the old 50L lens for comparison. He said he was shooting it on a Mark 3 camera and because of NDA wasn't able to post his samples on EBay just yet. So I would suspect the Mark 3 camera is coming "

Exactly!
And I will had some more...
I promised that I would post here the reply from my retailer to my email asking for news regarding a new body and an update to the 5d.
Here they are (there were two).
The lines that start with ">" were taken by him from my original email.
1st Hallo Luis,
you know that you are very welcome:-)
Thanks also for your warm words:-)

I have no news about a new upgrade, but I will check it, if there is one you will hear fro me.But at the moment I have no news about it.

My lady is also working with me, as you know we have also some stores, and in the studios, we are using the 5D due to the situation of the full format.
We are using mostley the 2.8/24-70mm Canon for the outsite pictures.

I am not aloud to do that before the 25th of september.
But be sure it is not new 5D or D 1 in between.
One thing you know already it is the Canon 400 D.
They have a lot of new Videocameras, and akkus:-))also a lot new viewfinder cameras.
I saw somewhere that the 1ds series would be merged with the 1d series, into a single series 1 professional body. If I remember correctly, it was from an official canon representative.
So, it will be AT LEAST 16.7 MP, most probably more.
It will have the speed of the 1DM2N, since canon rules the sports scene and they don't want to lose that (lot's of free publicity at sports events with all of those white lenses ).
So this means that the new 1 series will be AT LEAST as expensive as the current 1DsM2, again probably more.
That puts it completely out of my budget, and since the current 1DM2N has an excellent AF, weather sealing and provides the ability to use the 100-400 with a 1.4xTC and retain AF, I will probably get it while it's still on sale.
On a side note, that marketing strategy does, however, leave a huge gap in the canon line.
The 5D has the tendency to lower the price, while the new 1d will be very expensive. That is a huge discrepancy and there is nothing between these two in terms of price (only the 1DM2N, that we know it's going to disappear).
So I guess canon will have to introduce a new body in the near future, something between the 5d and the yet to be announced new 1d.
"Thus this current thread is doomed to stay permanently fact free" and so forth...
Of course. If that were not the case this would be called the "Official Photokina FACT thread" rather than the "unofficial Photokina RUMOR thread." ;-)
