Still no 200 f/1.8 IS L this time around (Well there is still hope).
I wonder if the 1Ds2 will also be replaced/updated this year? With the 2 new L's I think it is still possible though.
We may need to wait several weeks. The rebel may have come now to not let the Nikon annoucement "sit" too long.
Now we watch for more to come/that's all rumors.......
I did a search and came up with almost nothing, so i gotta ask here
Where there any news/rumors around the replacement to the 5D? im sure that wont be out for awhile, im just curious if theres any news/rumors/what not about it or any possible idea as to when we would expect it.
Nobody seems to have noticed the announcement of the Digic III processor - - here's a snippet from the page along with the link:
"To support its success, Canon designs, develops and manufactures
its own lenses, image sensors, image processors and color rendering
software. With consistently high annual investments in research and
development, Canon continues to stay ahead of the market with its
innovative imaging technologies, such as UA (Ultra High Refractive
Index Aspherical) Lens Technology, the DIGIC II (Digital Imaging
Integrated Circuit) and DIGIC III image processors, as well as Canon
CMOS image sensors for the company's EOS Digital SLR cameras."

Wow, this was as anti-climactic as Y2k. I would have liked to have seen at least 1 pro/semi-pro body.
You said it brother!
You'd think Canon would want to pull out the stops with Sony's appearance on the scene. Per Rod Galbraith, Sony has moved into the number 3 slot in Japan for dSLR sales. When you consider the marketing muscle Sony has, you'd think Canon would want to leverage it's "Big Dog" status with "We're still the Big Dog" strories like the intro of the world's top dSLR.
All these yawner show announcements of bigger lcds, low end bodies, and an overpriced lens or two make it appear that Canon has stalled.
Does anyone remember Sony's Beta VCR's. My understanding is they were actually a better product than VHS, with higher IQ. I bring it up because it's a reminder that the best product doesn't always win, there are other factors at work.

There were rumors, but anyone banking on a 5D replacement doesn't understand Canon's product cycles. The 5D replacement is expected to be announced no earlier than Feb, 2006, possibly last week of January. DSLR product cycles are 18 months, and the top-of-the-line DSLR (1Ds2) cycle is 24 months, so its replacement is due to be announced at Photokina in September.

We've all been hoping for some competition to drive down prices and spur innovation. Wouldn't it be funny if Sony steps in and provides some.
They did. Hence the double barreled cleaning function on the XTi.
Canon will milk it for the next month, product releases will continue, up until the show, when I expect they will announce a pro level body w/ DigicIII.
I'm almost willing to bet $100 that Canon has something up their sleeve. It feels like they are priming the pump with the recent three product announcement.
Release a few consumer products to get the buzz going and BAM announce the "ground breaking" product.
I fully expect a 1Ds2 replacement to be announced in September at Photokina (not this Aug. pre-announcement), and I expect it to have Digic III. Nice drop in that press release and good catch, johnecon. It is the correct time in the cycle (24 months for the top-of-the-line, not 18).

I agree. It's hard to believe that the beginning of a legend, or whatever, is the 400D. Or maybe they were talking about the 50 f1.2L
ROFL... I just came back to this thread to ask which one was the Legend? I'm hoping that Legend is referring to Digic III, but I don't know that for certain...
The next month will be interesting. I'm especially curious as to the price a new Ds will be introed at. I'm hoping the 5D's full frame at a reasonable price was a taste of things to come w/1 series pricing. Of course Canon really has no pro level, ff rival, so I'm not holding my breath, just hoping.
