who ever said three stops lost, besides some dude with 67 posts? (j/k)
Canon's Pellicle mirrors have, in the past, only had a 2/3-stop loss.
This wouldn't be any different, i presume. I don't discount that these cameras MAY be real... but they seem a little "out there". And if Canon made a 40 f1.4, i'd be in line for it.
however my wallet would probably be a lot happier with a 1.3x crop fisheye lens for my current 1dii. bugger all chance of that though.
ha! if canon felt the need to upgrade the fish, i'm sure they'd done it a long time ago. I myself would love to have one, because then i wouldn't "need" FF nearly as much.
You know, if I had info from someone who was under NDA with Canon, I would never share it on a message board based on the responses of the people here. Why would I subject myself to that? For what?
With that said, I will say that the cameras described are out of line with what most of us were expecting. We'll wait and see what actually goes into production.
I am not sure why everybody jumps on top of people for posting "what they heard". Everyone knows that it is rumours and to treat it as anything else prior to an official announcement doesn't make sense.
For me it is just fun to read, and hope for , in some cases, so I don't mind reading the rumours, but I fail to see the point of ridiculing the poster.

Chris, my myspace friend , the original poster said 3 stop loss bud. He has since changed his first post. But you are right, post count does make someone more knowledgeable about Canon speculation. I should have known.

Because frankly, these people do not bother me one bit. I've been around FM long enough and apart from posting photos, and making insignificant comments on lens choices and stuff like that, I've not really contributed to the larger community in any way. I've been busy pursuing my photography in the past few months. If you look at my last posts before this one, it's been quite a while. You don't just keep quiet on such big news, especially when you feel you can trust what your friend has leaked to you. Just thought I'd give something back to the community, and share it with people who are willing to believe me.
I don't derive any joy from rumor-mongering and watching this list grow to 10s of pages and 10ks of views. I do feel happy however, when my post makes some people go "Ohhh...." and start replying with positive responses.
Well, Canon has supposedly confirmed (though the link seems fishy) rebates on the 5d IN EUROPE starting 2/22/06. This suggests that there is something coming out that will at least partially compete with it. Lends credibility to the info posted here.
Any word on the 3000D? I doubt most of us would be interested in it for ourselves, it being a rather dumbed-down version of the standard SLR, but I'm curious about it anyway. A really cheap SLR, no matter how simplified, isn't such a bad thing.
I have a Non-disclosure agreement with Canon not to admit that I have read all 278 messages on this thread. I got around it by not quoting the exact amount of messages. My current job with Canon is still secure.
