I am not sure why everybody jumps on top of people for posting "what they heard". Everyone knows that it is rumours and to treat it as anything else prior to an official announcement doesn't make sense.
For me it is just fun to read, and hope for , in some cases, so I don't mind reading the rumours, but I fail to see the point of ridiculing the poster.

Well, Canon has supposedly confirmed (though the link seems fishy) rebates on the 5d IN EUROPE starting 2/22/06. This suggests that there is something coming out that will at least partially compete with it. Lends credibility to the info posted here.
argh, my 5D shipped today, and i am in europe (berlin). i hope the rebates are not too deep :)

Yep, some guys just need to stomp on somebody to prove they're "superior". Don't take it too hard, these guys need to hide behind the safety of a screen name to get up the courage to tear you down.
On the flip side, you probably should think about the cost/benefit of giving out information like this in the future- especially at that level of detail. You might have gotten your friend in trouble, while at the same time inviting the "experts" to take a shot at you. It was a lose-lose situation for you, although I do appreciate you sharing what you know.

data1ore, I am far more interested in the other cameras (that I can afford). Any news on them?
Nope, nothing concrete on the 30D or 3D. For what it's worth, I'm v. interested in the 3D myself. Imagine using both the EOS-3 AND the 3D. :-) suddenly my 24-70 and 70-200 becomes absolutely perfect.
We are all adults, and we can all evaluate the information for ourselves. For your sake I hope you are 100% right, so that you can gloat after all the trash postings!
This place used to be pretty civilized. It seems like too many a**holes have migrated here from DPReview. It is starting to take on the same tone.
Just speaking intuitively, Canon's biggest need is clearly not in the pro-body area. They need a response to the D200. Canon needs a 20D replacement that is not only priced comparably to the D200, but is equal or better in features. This is why I find it hard to believe that Canon would release a 30D or 35D or whatever whose only claim over the 20D is 10 megapixels and some computer presets. If Digic 3 isn't available now, then Canon either leaves it out of the camera or they lose another how many months with no response to the D200.
Just imagine the home run Canon would hit if they matched the D200 exactly -- all of a sudden the 350D competes against the D50 (no contest, Canon wins) and the 20D competes against the D70 (no contest, Canon wins). So they NEED to have a good response to the D200 -- it will fill an enormous gap between the 1.6x cameras and the 5D, thereby also elevating the competitiveness of the consumer dSLR bodies. I've heard interesting rumors about in-camera image stabilization. We'll see.
Canon's strongest need does not seem to lie in the professional realm. Canon already has the market cornered in the pro world. Fine, Canon may come out with a 22 megapixel camera or a pellicle mirror or whatever, but their revenue from a 20D replacement will blow away their revenue from a subspecialized addition to their pro lineup. The pros in the world already have cameras, and there are diminishing returns of upgrading now that the pro cameras have gotten so good. The spoils of advancement are being translated to the base of the pyramid right now, not the peak.
Again, how does that make any sense when Canon has no answer for the D200? People are gobbling up the D200 now, which let me remind you is 10 megapixels, 5 fps, 2.5 inch LCD, 11 point AF, and for $1600 (body). I mean the thing is back ordered everywhere. Canon would be retarded not to at least match its specs. Believe me they're not going to get a single 20D user to upgrade if the camera is nothing new, they're not going to pull new users away from the D200, and I as a 300D user wouldn't upgrade to this new camera either if it's that close to the 20D. I'd save my pennies for a better day.

I heard the same thing (8MP) more than twice. So the selling price of $1200 makes sense.
Kinda makes sense with the recent release of the mark II n.
