All I know from a reputable store via a Canon Rep is that the 20D replacement will be announced on the 21st. and will be available in stores around June. No details only that it is the 20D replacement. I would assume from the media that it will be around 10mp and 2.1/2" screen.

There's also other lenses I think...I heard something about a 10-22 mk2 from that same friend who mentioned the 1DS RS to me. He mentioned something about better build. I'm not sure what else changed in the mk2 of the 10-22.
Maybe because, although reputable, they are low on the totum pole for supplies. I would imagine it would be more likely May. All I know at the moment is that in a weeks time we will all know.

BTW I have seen images and heard rumors of a 40mm F1.2 L lense......
40mm is an odd length, also very close to the current 35 L. 50mm would have more credibility, but if you've seen it we have to take your word I guess...

It's quite obvious that most (none?) of you guys have used a 1nRS.
You really cannot tell that there is any light loss through the system at all, everything works fine, big, bright VF (infinitly better than 90% of modern DSLRs) and if you set ISO200 on a hand-held meter and transfer the reading to the camera it works fine and gives the same correct exposures as the camera metering.
Dust sealing would be of enormous value on a DSLR with a pellicle mirror.
Being able to see ALL the time is wonderful when doing action or flash.
The full 10fps on the 1nRS is only achieved by setting the 'On' switch to RS, when you half depress the shutter button the shutter is cocked - and exposure metering and AF are LOCKED at that point. Therefore during the 10fps burst the AF will NOT track and light changes not adjusted for. I rarely use the 10fps RS mode anyway as the 6fps' normal' shooting rate is fine most of the time - to be honest since I went digital I rarely use the RS at all, can't even remember the last time I shot on film..................... ...Show more →
I don't remember my 1N RS ever taking into account the 2/3rds stop difference automatically when in Manual Exposure mode. So which one changes shutter or aperture? Are you telling us that if your exposure meter said f/5.6 it would actually use an aperture of f/4.5 instead?
My 1N RS would simply act as though it had a 2/3rd stop ND filter on the lens, meaning AE would meter a slower shutter speed or wider aperture - but ME would require the factor to be taken into account.
Also one other thing it did in RS mode was to stop the lens down to the chosen aperture during a sequence, helps attain the 6ms lag time - but no AF.

I hope that there is no 1Ds RS now - I've promised the wife I won't buy another new camera this year....
But a pellicle mirror would be so tempting...
A pellicle mirror makes soooo much sense to me:
* Ability to see the image during exposure
* Shorter shutter lag
* Potential faster frame rates
* Potential live preview mode
The only real negative I had with the 1N RS I had was the loss of 2/3rds stop. With modern advances in ISO performance this (to me) is no big deal these days - just shoot at 640 instead of 400.

Gee, earlier in the thread you responded to "are there any new lenses coming" with:
---------------
I have not come into any new information on that front.
---------------
so which is it??
I've been on reading this forum through the introduction of the 1D Mk II, 1D Mk IIN, 1Ds Mk II, 10D, 20D, 300D, 350D, 5D and every time there's the "pellicle mirror" rumor and live preview....
When can we let this one go? Oh-for at least 5 should be enough already right?
I wish they'd just make a body the size of the 20D (with an optional but ergonomic grip) and the build of a 1D, with a 6 MP (maybe 8, if you really like pixels), ultra low noise (ISO 6400 useable), full frame sensor, 8 fps (buffering up to 24 RAW files), and a 20 point hybrid AF system. It would be easy for Canon to do and enough for 90% of us.
Kinda defeats the purpose of a line-up though, I know.

I said in my original post that I'll update it as I get new info. I got it so here it is! Was siphoning stuff off idle banter with that friend of mine again.
i would think the new replacement(s) would be available by late march, early april as they are already designed, just maybe fine tune them a bit? how long after the 20D was announced was it available? the D200 was like a month or so, right?

Thanks for sharing the info Datalore
I just wanted to mention, couldn't a pellicle mirror camera give you a live preview (like the 20Da) without the usual viewfinder blackout?
Could be another feature.
That will be a kick ass feature... How about another feature along this line
You use the viewfinder to compose... but the camera flips up the shutter when you hit AE lock and use the main sensor to do one of the followin:
1) Take a meter reading and show the HISTOGRAM at the same time!!!... that will be crazy
2) Do a quick preview with flashing highlights!!!
I believe using the main sensor to do the metering as opposed to using an additonal external sensor is better. Your accuracy will be better... and you can literally have a spot meter as big or as small as you want.. and anywhere in the frame!
Also, it can provide an instant histogram reading. No meter in any DSLR can provide that....
