I have been getting conflicting reports that he was or was not at that Motel- I called the Motel 6 and they checked his room #224 and said he is in that room and does not respond to phone or knocking on door and has the dead bolt set. Maybe he set it and left by a window though- his car is not in the parking lot - let's hope he did leave without cashing anyone's check.
ALSO, if anyone on line here who sent him a check by FedEX . The Motel has it right now 4:15PM EST and you can stop delivery by calling the Motel - ask for Brandy-an asst. manager
Thanks for all who have posted here. I just called the Tigard Motel 6 front desk a few minutes ago. They are aware of the scam and are holding all mail and deliveries to Jeff Washington. Luckily my envelope was one they are holding. If you are one like me who have mailed money to this person, I recommend you immediately call the Motel 6 (503-620-2066) front desk.
I wonder what the total is? How many folks sent money?
If you did please call the police at 503 629 0111. Ask for the Towalaton police and they should direct you to the officer who checked this out.

I sure hope you did not get scammed, because this guy promised me the lens once he checked out my references. I insisted on COD and he said he would do it if my references checked out. I too got a phone number-it was a hotel 8 in Portland.
Well I was afraid to post the minute by minute details during the day for fear that the "seller" was reading them.
In the early morning I called the FBI and they spent some time with me but directed me to the local police. I got to an Officer Leader who was trying his best to get out to the Motel 6 but had another serious issue. As soon as his shift was over I called back to dispatch and got another officer, after explaining the situation he went out to the Motel Six. He called me just minutes ago to report the "Seller" had committed suicide.
I was just trying to get the police to keep the "seller" from getting all the other folks money, mine was sent fedex and received yesterday and probably cashed then too.
I am now waiting for another call from the police to give a statement and probably direct them here to read these posts.
Well maybe he really needed the money for his family. I hope at least.
Best wishes to all even the guy who thought we were all nuts,
Brian

Jeez, this could be a TV show. Unfortunately, the kops didn't have a chance to read the guy his "Miranda" rights! Actually, after what he pulled, he had none!
The final good twist. The police have found my uncashed money orders. If there is a "Conrad" out there you should call Officer Louka at 503 629 0111. He has your checks also.
wow this has been a ride.

As the innocent (I swear!) originator of this thread, I have just crawled out from under my desk to see if the smoke has yet cleared. JEEEEEZZZZZ, what a weird one this turned-out to be! I sincerely hope that everyone has gotten their money back and kudos to forums like this where people can so easily exchange information. Reading this thread from beginning to end has really proved enlightening.
Brian, I just wanted to Thank You for telling me notifying the Tigard Police Dept. I did call yesterday to make the report, but at that time the post office told me they were returning my mail to me, so the police did not want me to make a report. Although today the officer told me they found my envelope along with another envelope in the motel room when they found Mr Washington....
Again Thanks to the originator of this post, because when I talked to Jeff Washington early Tuesday morning I told him someone posted a link to his sale on photo.net. He sounded surprised, but assured me I had first right of refusal as he called it. But that let him know that everyone was on to his scam... This is truely one bizarre and sad story.....
Wow, did the police divulge any information regarding this man's past?
I wouldn't think that a man who is clinically sick enough to commit suicide would be trying to scam so many people. Then again, like someone said, he may have been in a jam and needed money quick.
I was already suspicious, but this thread really reinforced my suspicions and I never mailed the money order that was made out to Mr. Washington. I also couldn't find a stamp that day.
You are welcome Conrad. I am not sure if any of us lost our money. I was certain mine was gone because mine got their Wednesday. The police said he had been doing this for a while. He was at the Motel 6 for a month.
WOW!!! is right. What an ending to this scam. I had thought he set the bolt on his door and left by a window. How sick he must have been and in trouble financially, criminally, and mentally.
Well we did stop this scam although in a way no one predicted. There is as I said before an interesting commentary on the power of the internet and forums like this in this whole story. The net is an enabler for scammers that is better than any past techniques; and simultaneously, a powerful communication tool that operates in real time to counter the scam.
i am amazed at this story. i have been following this from the first page of posts. indeed this is an interesting and very sad ending. it is true he was a scam artist, but i guess in no way should we also condemn a man we do not know, yet. at any rate, this should be on msnbc! what a great story it'd make, and all of you could do interviews
WOW!!, this is indeed the strangest i have heard. I had an encounter with this guy also. he was advertising the same lens for $800, ON THIS FORUM and we exchanged several emails and when i said that i would buy the lens but wanted to go through an escrow service, his emails stopped. What aroused my suspicions was the fact that he had only three posts on this forum. as i said before, wow...
Now I remember from awhile back that a person in either WA or OR had taken someone's money with a sale from the photo.net site. Does anyone remember those ads with their commnetaries? just a thought.
Just maybe "2" scammers are gone?
Yesterday I was working feverishly trying to get this thing stopped by the police but they got busy. So I just had to ask the Officer who found the body when he thought he died. LUCKILY for my sleep needs the Officer estimated sometime on Wednesday. I would have felt horrible if he would have died yesterday while I was trying to get the FBI, local police or the PI I hired to get out there.
