(Something's not right with my LR - I need to rerun to confirm as it's running at a glacial pace at the moment.)

Yes, does seem a bit slow. Other 20 core systems are 12-15 secs. Try a single file.

LR was running a Duplicates scan in the background which seemed to really slow everything in the app.

Re-running without other tasks running in the background resulted in 10 images in 2:02, or about 12 seconds per image.
