I hope the price is reasonable as I'll pick it up if it does. Would be a nice compact to pair with my Nikon zf.
I already have the 40/1.2 v2 in the M mount to pair with a Techart Adapter so I'm not sure if I'm being too redundant with the Septon. Awaiting reviews.

We already know it's $493 USD in Japan and can pretty confidently do the tariff math based on other new release Voigts like the new 28 APO. It'll be around $750 here in the US.

Man that's such a hard sell for a lens like this. Perhaps it will be optically surprising, though the sample photos look decent, but not amazing.
And while it's not quite as thin, the TTArtisan 50mm f/2 is only 5mm longer, looks to be have a nicer out of focus rendering, and while I'm sure the Voigtlander has much better flare resistance, and is 40mm instead of 50mm....the TTArtisan is $79.

The TTA is pretty ass until f4 by most reports. Alternately, every non-Nok tends to be center sharp from wide open. Also, I'd never shoot a 50 if I wanted a 40.
It's not worth making a judgement by the awful Voigt samples. If the Septon is as good as the Ultron, then it's totally worth the price that it costs to buy and adapt the Ultron to...NOT have to do that.
The better option to compare it to is the AF TTA 40/2, given a similar size and a third the cost.

It will be interesting to see if tariffs change given the US Supreme Court decision yesterday. Perhaps by the time it actually gets shipped the price will drop a bit. Regardless of what happens with tariffs, I think this is about a $400 lens on the used market in about 2 years. If patient, it is that price that I think is most relevant in comparison with the Ultron. Comparing a new lens to a used lens it is really hard for a new lens to look like a good value proposition. A new lens at introduction almost always loses a significant percentage of it value in the first couple of years. That is the price of early adoption. If you can't live with that, then you can just wait. I usually do, but make an occasional exception when I really want a given lens.

Oh I’m not actually making the clam the TTa is an amazing lens for $79. Just that this lens is hard to swallow at that price point.

The 40/2 Septon comes with a neat dome style hood, looks pretty slick.
Is there any other Voigt that has a similar hood, curious what they meant by "dome style" since they didn't bother to make any promotional photos with it.
edit: is THAT the hood? doesn't look like a dome in any way...
If there's an interior portion that is domed (kinda looks like it), that means we can just use the Ultron hood and save some length

Here is the Dome style hood for the C/V 27mm f2 Ultron for Fuji mount that screws into the filter threads. The hood comes with a screw in metal cap, also in black and fits flush with the dome, though the rest of my lens is the "silver" anodized aluminum color.
Pain to use, espescially with filters, and its difficult to remove the tiny screw in cap, so I put them both back in the box. Luckily, C/V also provided a plastic pinch cap fo fit the 43mm filter threads. Two of my Fujicrons are 43mm so if I need a hood, I will use one of those

Ok, so it’s just the 40 Ultron hood. I’ve never had an issue putting a filter behind it.

Septon dome hood looks a bit different, like this (photo from Map Camera, looks the same for both E and Z). I think the idea is that the same exact lens cap or filter can be used on the naked lens or on top of the dome hood.

Interesting. But the word Dome must be lost in translation
Good that it accepts filters and a standard pinch cap.

Yeah, this doesn't look like a typical dome hood. I assume other Voigtländer dome hoods that fit 52mm filter thread could also be used as alternatives.

So I went back and watched the promo video of the lens, and it had the typical Ultron ultra thin “dome” hood being screwed on without that weird abomination around it. Fred will have to fill us in on that.

The top part of the hood may be a separate removable ring as there is a seam as seen on the hood photo. It seems to me at around 5:01 in the video that there is some outer edge on the dome hood that stands out but not as tall as on the hood image.
Many Japanese shops have the same image for the hood so it should be an official product image provided by Cosina.
