K came home to a 90mm pointed at her... I don't get the zoom lens till next week. We're still together. She's used to me by now.
AF is definitely improved and in my single unprofessional test I'd say it runs trngs around the X2D. AFC seems to work for the dozen shots I took. All were focused where they are supposed to be. Also had another go with the dog and things were better when I was a foot or so away from said dog. Low light AF is excellent. End to end AF travel is much better. The new body hunts a lot less often in low contrast focusing.
Really though I want the lens. It's supposed to be faster again. Then I'll pull out the Fujis and do some side by side testing.
Anecdotally, ( I didn't do before and after testing) I think the lens firmware upgrades might also have some speed benefits on the older body.
Now I have M with auto ISO I REALLY wish I could customise the dials. But you can't. That means no rear dial as EV comp.
More to come....

Were you able to update the lens firmware? I saw one video where the reviewer suggested that all of the lenses except for the new zoom require a firmware update to operate most effectively. That does not mean that there is a firmware update available for every lens.

Which two lenses would you consider essential for this system...offering both good low-light performance and a versatile focal range?
Probably the 38V and 90V, but I also use the 135/2.8 as it's about a 110 in 35 equivalent and it comes with a 1.7x converter.

I was waiting to see confirmation of M with Auto ISO being supported before trying to divest my Earth Explorer. That plus the joystick solves my 2 major gripes with the original X2D. The screen still not tilting in portrait is a wasted opportunity for what should be the industry leading landscape camera, but one battle at a time I guess.
The ability to set "focus to infinity" to a custom button is really awesome for landscape applications in theory, curious to see how it works in practice.

You can do this on the X2D. I'm maybe misreading your post...

Ah, looks like you can. I never bothered because I don't have enough custom buttons to dedicate, but getting the wheels to be clicky on the II solves that. I'll have to try it out on the X2D.

I set up one of my custom profiles for astro, so mapped it to a custom button only for that one. I've yet to use it for that though...

Yeah, my big question is if it "overreaches" like so many autofocus lenses where they typically need to be backed off infinity for max sky sharpness. Let me know how you find it if you test it!

Oh dear me, this surely looks like a fantastic camera. I can still remember the first time I saw and touched the original Hasselblad X1D, oh wow that design. Yes, the original had many limitations, but it now looks like they got it matured. If price didn't matter and my heart was to pick at new camera as a gift to myself, this could be the one!

Camera rental shops will probably make good bucks out of it. Since the AF improved so much it is tempting for me to rent and try it just to get a taste of a solid medium format.

Yes. M plus auto ISO is a thing. But you'll need EV comp as a custom button as the dials can't be customised.

I've used the infinity focus button for astro many times. Works well. Olympus has something similar as well.

Yes. First thing I did was update everything. There's already one for the camera as well. All on the HB website. Anecdotally I feel there was some AF improvement on the X2D as well but I forgot to do before and after testing, so it's a feeling not a fact. I'm waiting until my zoom arrives before I test against the GFX system but so far I'm pretty pleased with the AF improvements.

Correct, came to post that, they call that out very specifically in the manual.
Hopefully in the future it can be set to the front wheel.
Also, one can use the lens control ring to apply EC. I like to have aperture and shutter speed on the front and rear dials, as not all lenses have a control ring.

Finally some good looking images shot on this camera! The video script & V.O was super cringe, but I'm appreciative of the overall production value and real world usage feedback.

Wow, talk about pretentious narration! I could not get past that to watch the actual review.
