Stopped at my local (1 hour away) camera store today and unexpectedly bought one of these after trying it out. First impressions are extremely positive. Hope to post some images soon.

It's a great lens, but then the original is also superb optically.
I think the reason to buy it is for the better physical features:
clickable control ring, internal zoom, faster focus
And the optical features:
closer focus and slightly better bokeh less flare.
