It's on the way back to B&H for an exchange, the thing is just out of whack at 24mm.
Attached is the full frame at low res then the lower left corner of each lens at 24mm F4, focused just below center of the frame. All stopping down does is change the direction of the smearing / distortion and focusing on other areas of the frame did not do much. You will be able to tell the difference between the two lenses right away.
If the replacement does the same thing, I will just get a refund and stick to my first version 24-70. ...Show more →
That’s a pretty tough scene for any lens but I would agree that it doesn’t look up to par with what I would expect out of the 24-70 v2 - Glad you noticed it and getting it swapped out-

I got the replacement one this week and it is good to go, sharp corners throughout.
Got a new 24-70 f/2.8 Z version 2 today from the Nikon store today. I did the trade up offer for $300 plus the value of my 24-70 Z version 1. I really like the lighter feeling and internal zoom. So far it seems to be extremely quiet and fast focusing. I also really like the clickable aperture ring and no info window. Hood is cool with window for a CPL filter or variable density filter. Will take some more pics. So far happy.

Question for owners of the new 24-70/2.8S II who also own other S-model f/2.8 zooms...
Does the hood of this new lens also fit the 35/1.2, 50/1.2, 14-24/2.8S, and the 70-200/2.8S?
As noted earlier, the answer is no — but this hood *does* fit on the 24-120/4S, and works well. Having the button release and the filter adjustment window improves the 24-120/4S experience considerably.
(The 70-2000/2.8Sii does still use the larger hood diameter, shared with the 50/1.2, Plena, 14-24, etc.)
Used the Nikon trade in promotion to get this lens yesterday and took it for a quick stroll.
It's main role is going to be for indoor shots but wanted to get an idea of what I can expect.
