I got to try the new 24-70/2.8 II today for the first time at the big "Salon de Photo" in Paris. Seems like a very impressive performer and certainly something I would add to a Z6III/Z8 or Z9.
@58mm, f8, 1/250s,iso 64
I was photographing something else much much slower then the bird suddenly took off near me so
I thought what the heck even though shutter speed was too slow and I was in AF-S mode.
I accidentally posted these in a wrong thread so let me repost these photos as well.
Pano stitched @ 24mm, 10 shots.
PS this thread is not in photo thread list. Not sure if anybody can add it or not?
Question for owners of the new 24-70/2.8S II who also own other S-model f/2.8 zooms...
Does the hood of this new lens also fit the 35/1.2, 50/1.2, 14-24/2.8S, and the 70-200/2.8S?
Reason: the hood of the original 24-70/2.8S used the same hood bayonet mount as the 35 & 50 1.2's, the 14-24/2.8S, and the 70-200/2.8S meaning that 112mm filters used with the Nisi filter system for the 14-24 can be shared across all of these lenses.
With the new 24-70 mkII lens using a 77mm filter size, although the new lens uses a different direct filter mount size from the 35, 50, and the 24-70 mkI lenses, the ability to use existing 112mm ND filters, etc. with the new Mk II lens is an important consideration for me.

The new 24-70 f2.8 II hood does not fit the 35 f1.2, 50 f1.2,14-24 f2.8S nor 70-200 f2.8S. The new hood is smaller in diameter.
I have had my 24-70 2.8II for a couple days now. I like everything about it but it seems to fall short in the corners at 24mm at any aperture below F11, it's like it has curvature of field or something. This is specifically on somewhat elevated landscapes in which the closest object at the bottom is about 30' feet away and the furthest at infinity, focused at the near point. Think a landscape scene from my deck which is usually tack across the frame.
My other 24-70 2.8S (which is for sale?) does not do this at all, it is pretty much flat field and critically sharp into the corners at semi distant landscapes / architecture, pretty much perfect from F4 on.
Am I missing something here, does one need to cheat the focus around a bit to get things in check at 24mm on this lens? By 28mm it totally cleans up and stays critically sharp through the zoom range at most apertures.

I have found the 24-70 to be about as good as any zoom lens I have touched. To be fair I haven't gone searching for the issue you are saying but I haven't seen anything in pictures or video that would give me concern.

I'll take a set of photos from a pedestrian bridge tomorrow that shows good distant but flat perspective landscape. I'll compare the two lenses and post a few pics to show you what I mean.

It's on the way back to B&H for an exchange, the thing is just out of whack at 24mm.
Attached is the full frame at low res then the lower left corner of each lens at 24mm F4, focused just below center of the frame. All stopping down does is change the direction of the smearing / distortion and focusing on other areas of the frame did not do much. You will be able to tell the difference between the two lenses right away.
If the replacement does the same thing, I will just get a refund and stick to my first version 24-70.
