The HDR stuff is confusing. You can get proper HDR out of the current camera lineup in Lightroom. I’ve done it. Not seeing much about the overall speed and operation of the camera.
It's just marketing fluff. It's not doing anything HDR wise that my Zf isn't doing that I can tell (short of higher bit files maybe).

I believe the difference is primarily that HDR images can be saved directly in camera to jpeg without the need for Lightroom, etc. A bit odd as that does not seem like a use case for a professional camera. It likely would also automatically save the HDR settings to the raw file so that they are applied when the file is opened in the raw converter (which could be helpful).

I believe that this new camera has fairly unique display capabilities with the 1400 nit screen. So, although many cameras support HDR, how many can actually display the results on the rear screen?

Sad to see Bobby say that the eye sensor is just as slow to activate as the X2D (eye has to be touching the rubber for it to switch). Operationally it's one of the most frustrating parts of the camera.

Yes, JPEG is 8 bit, HEIC 10 bit, but raw can be up to 16 bit.
Not sure why you are "correcting" me, you don't shoot HDR in RAW. We're discussing what Hassy is doing in the HDR space that other companies/cameras aren't. As far as the files goes, it doesn't seem like much, they're just giving you HEIC files, just like everyone else.
Yes, reviewing them on the back screen is nice, but that's not a function of the output.

JPEG doesn’t support HDR. You have to use HEIC, just like every other camera that does this already.
Standard JPEG does not. I thought this camera might also support one of the newer jpeg formats that does support HDR, such as JPEG XL, JPEG 2000 or Ultra HDR Image Format, but that does not appear to be the case looking at the data sheet for this Blad.
Correction! Apparently, Hasselblad is using Ultra HDR with Jpeg. Here is what I found via Gemini:
"Ultra HDR JPEG: The camera also supports saving images as Ultra HDR JPEG files. As mentioned in the previous response, this is a backward-compatible format that embeds a "gain map" within a standard JPEG file. This allows non-HDR devices to view the image as a regular SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) JPEG, while HDR-capable devices can use the gain map to display the full dynamic range."

It's called "Ultra HDR JPEG" and comes with the following caveat on the X2Dii:
When HDR is enabled, the metering mode is fixed to Smart Metering. HDR is not supported in the following situations: drive mode set to Focus Bracketing, Continuous, or Exposure Bracketing; Exposure mode set to Manual (M); when connected to a Nikon-compatible flash; image format set to "RAW" only. In these drive modes, RAW files can still be processed with HDR effects in Phocus and exported as Ultra HDR JPG images.
Phocus is the one pushing that file out, not the camera.

Are you sure the camera itself is not saving the file in the Ultra HDR Jpeg, meaning that it could also be read with the HDR by other software besides just Phocus?

It seemed like it was spitting out HDR JPEGs that could go right on IG with proper support based on the PetaPixel video, but I did watch it in bed as soon as I opened my eyes so yanno, lol.
I wonder if the EVF sensor just isn’t sensitive enough (hardware) or if they can tune that. I’m sorta stunned people haven’t honed in on that over the years. Sounds like a simple but major annoyance that they would fix if cries got loud enough.

Yes, just about the same price as a Leica M11 Monochrome with local tax and no lens.
What does the price of a 35 FF Leica (a much smaller and lighter camera that is not the competitor) have to do with the system price of a MF Hasselblad? A serious question as I would think the system price comparison would be between Fuji GF and Hasselblad. The only thing a Leica M would have in common with a Hasselblad is pedigree. Or, are these the two systems you were considering before going with the Blad?

There was a FW update for the X2D that made it "more sensitive" if you want to call it that...not sure if they simply prioritized the sensor's data stream, or actually changed the distance, etc, but this version seems to have the identical sensitivity as an up-to-date X2D so I'm assuming they maxed out what they can do.

This video pop up in my feed, which is mandarin speaking based YouTube channel I following. Seeing how the HDR images presented in HDR video, I need to keep reminding myself the price tag, huge files, and I don't need it... 🤪

Wasn’t a correction. For those less familiar with HEIC, which as of yesterday included me, I just wanted to point out that relying upon RAW provided much more information and less compromise. . Regarding reviewing images, I wasn’t suggesting this was a function of the output, but it was a feature mentioned by a couple of reviewers. Prior to posting I realized that you already know all of this. I should have just posted without reference to your post. Apologies..

No I am just stating...the obvious. Leica has overpriced themselves for the moment IMHO. This new lower Hasselblad pricing, with more for less, must have some other marketing managers on edge. Even the 907X/100C price has been lowered to $7400.
All camera manufacturers are competing for our money, don't kid yourself.
Now the X2DII can be used in street photography just like I would use my M11(M), but with AF-C follow focus and a simplified menu system unlike the Fuji GFX system menu, but not unlike the M11/SL3/Q3 menu systems (I own all 3 Leica systems in multiples).
