p.1 #1 · Rumor: Hasselblad X2DII to announce on 26 August
Could be the model I might be interested in getting.
Model HB722 Price unknown so far.
-Joystick
-LIDAR AF of 76,000 AF points versus like 294 now. Meaning it will focus in about total darkness.
-New CPU to handle LIDAR I assume.
-Enhanced UI
-One additional memory button on rear.
-Other items which are unclear at the moment.
Will it have continuous AF?
Better LCD? Highly adjustable?
Better EVF?
Good Eye Detection?
Still have 1TB internal memory?

If fast, accurate autofocus is important to you, then this looks like the upgrade. For me, not so much. I don’t get out of focus shots. I reserve such images for when I use my rangefinder cameras and even there it is a rarity.
Six days later I found myself revisiting this thread. Temptation without justification.

I also suspect that the major benefits of the Lidar update will mostly be for closer subjects - it's likely not going to make that much difference for landscape use - where AF speed of course matters little.

On the other hand it could help in extremely low light situations where precise focusing is imperative which I often find myself in while out in the American SW area.

I honestly don't really care about AF improvements, I mostly treat mine like a single AF point film camera and focus/recompose the majority of my shots. If it had a tilt screen as the only quality of life upgrade, it would be very tempting.
If it had tilt AND a joystick, that would seal it.

Will depend upon how powerful the lidar is as it may not be strong enough to work with distant objects - if you are thinking about distant landscape shots for instance. I guess we will just have to see.
I'm not familiar with the current Hasselblad lenses for the XD - is there a hard infinity stop on the lens (particularly the wider lenses and zooms that appear to mostly be non "V")?

Does the X2D tilt screen not suffice?

No but you can program a button to immediately focus at infinity or MFD. Wide sky photography is a breeze with the X2D.

it's pathetic in just about every functional way compared to other screens. The only thing it has going for it is that it's big, bright, and beautiful.

I picked up an X1DII/45P combo last year and have spent the past 12 months working on picking up the XCD V lenses in anticipation of eventually upgrading to the X2D. Right now I have the 25, 55 and 90 V’s.
I didn’t expect the X2DII to have a joystick or greatly improved focusing. Regardless, I’m still targeting the X2D because it has the features I want and more than anything I’m hoping the price follows the downward path the X1DII took after the X2D’s release.
The XCD V’s are great to use with the consistent f2.5 max aperture, and sharing a common filter size. I find myself going manual focus often as well as relying on zone focusing.
But number one is fingers crossed on a lower priced X2D.

If that’s true, that will be a fantastic landscape lens (and super expensive!)

Looks like a Hasselblad XCD 2,8-4/35-100 will also be announced. That's a very good range and unique at the wide end (Fuji offers 45-100 F4).

The lidar worked great on my Ronin 4Ds, wonder if they'll integrate the overhead lidar object mapping view on the X2D2.
Sometimes it'd work a hair over 10m but goes out of range soon after. If they put a stronger emitter or better return sensor maybe could extend. For non infinity stuff it's super useful and reliable.

Will also be big. But yes, the range is excellent. Now we really need the 100-200.

Yep, seems like it would have to be big and heavy given the f2.8 on the wide end for MF, combined with the range- unless Hasselblad has pulled off some sort of amazing optical innovation in the lens.
