I've been using this E-mount firmware and I think it's great. I’m surprised TTArtisan hasn't released an official version yet...maybe they're still working on it. No rush TTA, take your time; I'm already very happy with this beta 20250811 firmware you emailed Jonas!

Of course, sharing is caring and all that... I'm happy with the 20250811 as well. Maybe TTA has other ideas they want to try before releasing v03? Time will tell.

I'm interested in updating the firmware to the version Jonas has provided, but I haven't been able to get my computers to recognize the lens as a USB drive so that I can install the firmware. I've tried it on both a Mac and a Windows PC. I've tried repeatedly plugging and unplugging the cable. I've tried pressing the lens cap down with my palm. I've tried different cables. Nada. No recognition.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any suggestions?

Works on PC only. Just plug in the adapter via USB, open the drive folder, and drag the firmware file in...done.

Thank you for the help. I did try this on PC, but I did not see any drive folder appear. I will try again to see if I missed something. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place for the drive folder; or, per TTArtisan's instructions, I needed to try unplugging and plugging it a few more times before giving up.

Hey Chiron,
Other possible problems may be the cable and how you connected it.
Make sure you have a proper USB cable. Some cables are for power delivery only while "proper" ones can transfer power and data.
When connecting the cable make sure you push it all the way in. There is a pressure point (USB-C) and you have to push the cable to get pass it and make connection.

Thanks for the help. At first, I did make the mistake of not pushing it all the way in on the lens--it requires quite a push and a snap! But then I got that right. I will see about the cord. I tried two, but they might both be non-power bearing. I'll find another.

[EDIT CORRECTION: IGNORE MOST OF WHAT I WROTE BELOW. I HAVE GOTTEN THE FIRMWARE TO UPDATE AND THE FOCUSING IS MUCH BETTER WITH THE @Jonas B PROVIDED FIRMWARE. APOLOGIES FOR THE MISLEADING POSTS]

Well, I've tried everything, including more usb cords and also having someone with excellent computer expertise try to get the lens to connect, with no success, The rear lens cap on my copy has a slight jiggliness even when tightened--perhaps the contacts are not making a good connection. That might be the problem, but I have wasted a lot of time and effort at this point.

The lens is going back. With the older firmware, the AF focusing is very unreliable and regularly fails to capture the eye in Eye-AF, even when it is lighting the little green box over the eye to confirm focus. I can't update the firmware. The rendering is lovely, and if the AF and firmware updating worked, I would keep the lens. Maybe in six months they'll have things sorted out. But for now it is not useable for me. Sort of amateur hour.

Too bad and I understand.
It's obvious TTArtisan has some product quality problems of various kinds. If they improve the future will be interesting. For now they are losing some customers due to quality issues.

EDIT: Chiron managed to update his lens by trying another cable. That's fine. It's however still true that TTA has problems with the quality of their products. Hopefully they will be better over time.

Here are a couple of wide-open random shots....no edits, straight out of camera like some of you guys requested. Except for focusing issues here and there at higher f-stop number, it is a great lens. I loved carrying only this lens and my a7CR during my recent trip. It was my version of RXR1III.

The lens is very small and light and has interesting rendering, all of which are what drew me to it. But I can't get my copy to work, as detailed above. I've probably owned 50 or more lenses and this is the first time this has happened to me.

Did you try any Eye-AF shots of people or animals at max aperture with your copy? And what were your AF issues at smaller apertures? Have you updated to Jonas's firmware?

TTA's "smartcaps" are horrid, and they all have that wiggly slop.

Yep, I have tried eye-AF and it works great wide open. The AF issue I have is occasional hunting even with the firmware posted by Jonas. I think TTA can definitely fix this with firmware update since this version of the firmware is better than the one posted by TTA.

I think you should get it exchanged and give it another try.

I replace all the rear caps with a common one so it's one less thing to worry about.

I use the Sony rear caps... it still wiggles on this lens annoyingly. Even more so than the official TTA one. Very loose.

I am chagrined but also happy to report that I finally got my TTArtisan 40mm f2.0 to connect to my PC and to update its firmware to the version provided by @Jonas B. I had tried a total of five USB-A to USB-C cords to connect, without success. But I had ordered a heavy-duty braided cord from Amazon that arrived today, so I thought I would give it one more try befre packing up the lens to send back. This time the TTArtisan window popped right up, I copied Jonas's firmware, ejected the drive, disconnected the USB cord and was done. So, Jonas was right about the cords perhaps being the problem.

I am also very happy to report that the focusing on the lens at f2.0 is much improved and now seems satisfactory to me. The rendering seems good. I will give the lens more of a workout and see how it performs at other apertures. It is a very small and light lens, which is very nice on the smaller Sony bodies. I feel that I can do a better assessment of the rendering now that it is focusing more accurately at f2.0. My apologies for my earlier reports, which I am happy to amend. I have added an EDIT correction to my earlier posts so that someone reading them in isolation is not misled.

Years ago, I bought one of those cheap Windows tablets from Microcenter and it has come in handy for things like this.

Bonjour,
About usb cables...
If you use a usb cable on your camera not only to charge the battery, but also to transfer images from the camera to your pc, you know it's the right cable to update firmware on cameras and lenses.

f2 1/80sec iso400 a7cii

It's a nice lens. I'm still on the default firmware, works fine for me so far, but I've been shooting this wide open the entire time so can't help there much.

Even nicer if it did 1.5 ish.

This lens 100% scratches the 40 Ultron rendering itch while still having AF and letting me shoot a little looser. I particularly like the way OOF foregrounds render.

I am getting the impression that the rendering is indeed a bit nicer than the Sony 40/2.5.
