Really enjoying the small footprint of the rx1riii, it feels like holding a smartphone. In a light drizzle I can tuck the body under my jacket sleeve and in heavy rain it easily slips into a jacket pocket. Importantly to me, it doesn't look like I'm open carrying a firearm, as I've been nervously told that while handholding larger, black bodies when seen approaching from a distance here in Anchorage, Alaska...

Not good Looks like the dreaded E61 lens erros is still happening in the Riii as well!
This issue was pretty common on the RX1 and RX1R...and there are a few mentions of it happening on the RX1R II as well, though much less frequently. The usual trick to fix it was to power off the camera, place it face-down with the lens (or cap) against a flat surface, apply light downward pressure, and turn it back on. Often this would re-engage the focus mechanism and clear the error. But it wasn't a foolproof fix.
This error (E:61) is even mentioned in the RX1's user manual, where Sony simply calls it a "camera malfunction" and advises the user to initialize the camera and restart it. In practice, though, without using the trick I mentioned above, the error would usually remain.

I guess it makes sense if they’re using the exact same lens. I can’t express how personally disappointed I am by the new model. I really thought the day it was released I’d sped the amount. I guess my new house purchase process is happy.
Obviously it’s not about me, that said, 13 years is a long time to wait for what they released.

Seems there is another round of Fujifilm equipment price increasing. GFX100RF will be sold at $5,599 in the states from September. I guess Fujifilm did not price in tariff at all when introducing GFX100RF. Now I think at this point the price difference between GFX100RF and RX1R III makes more sense now.

Very close to the q3 isn’t it?

Do you mean on the used market? Or do you expect Sony to drop the price?

Now even more than 13 years ago, I am absolutely pumped about this camera. Once it hits below about $3,500 I will be picking one up.

I would only see Sony drop the price if the tariffs go away for good, and then maybe $500
All premium compacts are priced comparatively high. Higher than ILC cameras with similar tech. Pricing is one way to underline that the camera is a premium product.
Interesting to see if RX1r III is a stop gap product that Sony could push to the now very active premium compact market segment. Using RX1r II basic lay out and lens sure made product development much quicker. In that case it is possible that we see a totally different IV version in a few years. It would be a new camera from ground up and obviously considerably more expensive. Just speculating
Another - and maybe more probable - possibility is that the very slow product circle continues and RIII will be here to stay, just as RX1r II was.

I've been using my RX1RII a LOT these past few weeks, mostly taking photos of the family and such. I am one of the biggest fans of the RX1 series that you will find, but I think I'm going to hold off on the III for now.
The two reasons are: price and the lack of flip screen.
When it was first announced, the lack of flip screen didn't bother me that much in principle. But over these past few weeks, I've used it a lot on my II to take low-ish angle photos of my kid, which has been really helpful and I don't think I'd want to go without it. And you know what? The II is still an astounding image making machine, especially for my use case. It's my favorite camera ever, and I constantly need to remind myseld that the existing camera doesn't get any worse when a new one comes out.
But yeah, if the price drops a lot on the new or used markets, I'll likely pick up a III at some point, and it just might not be my go-to family camera.

A used Q2 is around $3k. If size is a non-issue, will be interesting to see your thoughts about this vs a Q2.
I've used the Q2 for almost three years and it’s a fantastic camera, but it's really not comparable in size to the RX1 series. The Q2 is closer in size to a Leica M, and on top of that, the focal lengths are different. Honestly, the only real similarity is that both have built-in lenses.

I was offered new from greentoe for 4500 which comes tax included at that price. But my offer was 4k 😔. Will be in Japan in 2 months. Hope someone can confirm by then if they were able to change menu's to English. So, used 3500 should happen soon 😀
