If the Sony rx1riii was priced in your country at 3499.00 would you jump on it or walk past ? That's what it's priced at in the UK sales at the moment. £701 off. It's such a new camera that for it to be reduced by so much, it's been over priced from the start or under specced and it's not selling. Or both ? A cheaper competitor the x100vi hasn't reduced in price in the sales and the other side of said coin, Leica Q's haven't gone on sale tho just before Christmas they were offering an extra battery free....!!!
Both x100vi and Leica Q are clearly more feature rich products. Is that the real problem with the rx1riii today the market for the rx1riii has moved and the consumer expects more features and not less....Show more →
You launch at a price and then adjust to maximize sales. Quite normal. Same happened to Fuji's X-E5. Seems manufactures are trying to test the waters to see how far they can go.

Clearly, the RX1riii is priced high and that will definitely affect the number of sales, but we know there are a lot of prospective camera buyers who are price insensitive - many on these forums.
I think the bigger issue now versus when the first and second versions of this camera came out is that there are more options for a smallish everyday carry, each with their strengths and weaknesses including the Fuji and Leica Q3 that you mentioned as well as the A7CR which I prefer.

Sold my Q2 for the RX1R III and never looked back. Smaller, lighter, better AF. If I had a good pancake for the a7cR, I might consider that an option - even if bigger. The X100 (or X-E5 with the 23f2.8) are viable contenders. But then the RX allows to comfortably crop to 3x, while the the 40MP Fuji I only use at 2x.

A RX1R3 ND filter approach:
No biggie but I thought I would share.
ND filter is required for this camera in you want to use the mechanical shutter in very bright light.
I bought the Kase 3-stop. I placed the magnetic inset in my Zeiss UV filter so that it does not have to be removed. I then attached the filter to a collapsible rubber hood from B&H.
I leave that combo in a small pouch.
Getting the ND in place is just a matter of removing the original hood and popping this combo on.
