Whatever Mark Galer says or works for I always look at his images and make my own choice.

It is what it is...This is going to be a great small carry everywhere FF camera.

His RX1R II Gallery looks like it performs for what is was made for.

At the 10:13 mark in the video he (Kyle Meshna) talks about the lack of auto switching between mechanical and electronic shutter when going above 1/2000. He notes that the A1.2 can do it. Maybe it's just an oversight by Sony and that feature can be added via firmware? Not holding my breath.

RX1 series got 0 firmware updates on mk1 and mk2. I would hope it's different this time, but also would not be surprised if there were no updates.

Shocking that some of the reviews criticize the lens. I especially love what it does with environmental portraits.

Now that is a surprise: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4811783

Not sure why most of these points were not brought up by any YTubers…

“ WHAT I LIKE

- Very fast start up to shoot time, faster than my A1ii and MUCH faster than my A7CR

- AF speed and focus tracking speed is faster than my A7CR + 24GM/35GM

- Operations responsiveness, playback delay, playback zoom in is faster than the sluggish A7CR, very close to A1ii which I find very satisfactory

- Electronic shutter banding and distortion is less serious than A7CR

- Lens wont extrude when turned on/focusing which is good

- beautiful rendering and bokeh by this Zeiss 35 F2 lens”

I'll get mine on Saturday - I hope. What I think happened is that folks were caught by surprise by the announcement and the price :-) - at least I was. While Fuji always artfully spreads pieces of info to rumor sites, Sony managed to keep this behind closed doors - even though another manufacturer was involved (or does Sony manufacturer the lenses themselves?).

But what I see already is very positive in addition to the above: alpha control layout - same muscle memory across cameras; integrated EVF; good looking sleek design.

The cameras will sell - it is sold out now at the dealership where I bought mine.

I've seen enough. My concerns about the AF have eased. Picked the camera up at B&H yesterday. Haven't had time to unbox or test. Will take it for a spin this weekend.

I’ve picked up mine yesterday. My biggest worry was the lack of tilt screen vs my Rx1Rii. Turns out it is not as problematic has I anticipated. 50% of my shots are in portrait mode and thus flip is pointless and for the rest, I can move down or simply trust a MUCH better AF.

Quite a few side benefits I didn’t think about:
1) new EVF is not different than my previous version. It is plenty good.
2) because it is integrated, I can now use a flash while using the EVF. It aldo much less prone to getting caught while in use and putting the camera away,
3) new software is now fully compatible with sony recent flash and especially its wireless commander. You also get the full flash menu in the system and can map it to a button.
4) You can now use aspect ratios marker (a bit like in the GFX100RF) except it doesn’t seem to stick in the file when exported. Might be operator error but would be nice if it worked like I believe it should.
5) AF is much improved especially in low light. Speed is not an issue and plenty fast for the use case I have of this camera.
6) you now get proper Eye AF like any modern sony camera (RX1Rii could do it but in a very convoluted way),
7) modern menu system,
8) Phone app that is decent and plenty good connectivity.
9) touch screen as a there is no joystick,
10) I can now use the shutter app to do focus stacking,
11) faster write speed to the SD card, one additional button to assign in lieu of the record button,
12) proper back button focus capacity,
13) finally a USB-C connector.
14) Mutliple different RAW formats.

Most of the shortcoming really did not bother me. I liked the lens, the leaf shutter, battery was not a problem so a bit improved in this iteration.

I really get that the price is very high. As a very long user of the RX1Rii, the price I paid was already very high, but fully amortized over a much longer period than my other camera. Having the new camera secures me for an extra 5 -10 years. :-).

My Rx1Rii will be up for sales shortly. Given the value it retained, it will go a good way toward softening the hit of the new price. Interested people stand ready for it. :-)

So far, I’m very satisfied with this new version. Looking forward to many, many picture experiences.

It will pair super well with my Rx100vii for travel. Now if they could update this one. :-)

And then comes the Mark IV. Without a viewfinder. Or without a display. Or without both. But to compensate, it has significantly improved AI AF.

There will no need for EVF of screen. Neural chip will let us connect it directly to our eye, What our eye will focus on, the camera will do.

I will weigh in here, even though a fixed lens camera isn't my thing. I think Sony should have used the A7C II/A7Cr body and added the RX1r lens. This would have resulted in a bigger camera, but it still would have been smaller than a Q3. They then could have easily had IBIS, and a very nice tillable LCD. I think that would be a more useful camera and since they already have that body, I don't think it would have had to cost any more. It would also make it clear what you are paying for is the lens, which is very nice and doesn't come cheap. Ideally they would up the viewfinder to 3.7 K dots, and update the lens with new motors, but even if they didn't it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
Obviously that would be a bigger camera, but I don't think the miniaturization that is required to make the camera as small as what they produced is worth it. For those who want that miniaturization this camera will be well received, but those who really want what making it just a big bigger would allow I don't think will or are happy with the camera.

RX1R lens is directly glued to the sensor while e-mount has a 18 mm flange distance. I am not sure how to put that lens on A7C II/A7Cr. May be I am missing something?

Obviously what I am suggesting wouldn't be a E mount camera, and they would have to modify the mount area of the A7C II/A7Cr body to accommodate the RX1R lens, but given that the lens is fixed and the A7C II/A7Cr body is bigger that should not be that much of a challenge.

Any hope that one day Sony will make an APS-C fixed lens compact? A full frame EDC is overkill for me, and I’d rather have image stabilization, tilting LCD, bigger EVF (even at the expense of a smaller LCD).

Never say never. But at the moment, APS-C seem to be not in focus by Sony. For V-logging, but not for serious photography other than the current models.

One could hope, indeed. One could even hope they'd add it with a firmware update...but having owned the first version of the RX1, I get the distinct feeling that one would always be hoping, never receiving...

I can go up to 1/40000sec in extended mode on my Q2 monochrome!!

So just to be clear you are still talking about a fixed-lens camera but just asking for a larger body which can accommodate the additional features?

Yes, a larger body based on the A7C II/A7Cr body and I am suggesting that the fixed lens could have been the one from the RX1R with maybe a few modest upgrades (better focus motors, better polishing of the aspherical elements).
