This thread was a major factor in my decision to upgrade to an R6II. I shoot with a 5DIII and don't want to give up my EF glass since I’m so happy with it. Seeing that it’ll still work well on mirrorless sealed the deal. Some really nice shots in this thread!
Well, I was using my EF glass the past two days. For fun Wednesday I took the 5DSR out with my 24-70 L II on it and shot it against my Leica SL2 with the 24-90 on it. I was just curious about how the two would compare directly. Looking at the RAW shots only there were differences but nothing all that great. Sharpness was certainly on the side of the Leica. Maybe the same thing, but detail in textured surfaces was clearly better with the Leica also. Like a wooden door, or surface of a cast iron piece, side of a barn, etc. They metered differently but I have the Leica setup to meter to preserve highlights. Warmer tone to the Canon shots. The Canon was lighter by far. 50mm on both lenses gave me a different angle of view for some reason. Maybe some aspect thing set to one of the camera's? Subjects were all static so no difference with the AF, both just worked. I'd say the RAW images out of the Leica were better in terms of overall quality. That said, after a bit of post processing I could make each shot pretty much identical on the monitor at print size. It was around the middle of the day with overcast skies so not the best shooting conditions. Then yesterday while hanging out for the holiday I did a little test shooting with my Canon EF 400/5.6 L adapted to the Leica SL2. Handheld the shots with the IBIS of the SL2 set to a generic 400mm lens profile. Shot out the backdoor at my bird feeder about 20 ft away. Once again overcast skies so I was shooting ISO 800 to get enough shutter speed to deal with motion blur of the small birds at the feeder. Super sharp shots in this controlled environment. If the sun is up this afternoon I'm going to take this setup and my EF 600/4.0 out to the bird refuge to see how well they work in the field. The 600/4.0 makes some funny noises focusing on the SL2 but it seems to work and IS is active on the lease. In no way do I expect the SL2 to work better with these lenses for action shots than my old 7D MK II I normally use them with. But for more static shots the SL2 may work just fine. I do lose some "reach" though so the question really will be what setup gives me the best overall picture since the SL2's image would usually be cropped to give the same "view" as the 7D Mk II. Anyway, my morning rambling thoughts about still using my EF lenses.
Only 2 lenses at this point, the EF 300 2.8 mk 2, and the Tamron 15-35 2.8. Otherwise I've made the transition to the RF catalog. Not going to spend $10k for the RF 100-300, and the ultra wide range isn't used enough to make me buy a new one.

Ramble on because I am finding your analysis "same here".
I am comparing with a MF Fuji GFX100s ii and GF lenses and the Canon EF180mmf3.5 Macro. I got great results mounting the 180mm to the Fuji using pricey Fringer adapter. Not so much using the EF100mm/f2.8 IS.....That is as far as I have gone with EF-GFX.
I am still shooting all my dslrs with excellent results. Yes the MF contains much more detail but side by side...nothing to worry about moving to R yet.
Thanks for your "rambling".

1Dx EF 35mm f1.4L USM
1Dx EF24-70mm f2.8 L II USM I only own 2 EF zooms and they are very sharp for a zoom
I was back out yesterday shooting a couple of EF lenses.
First was the old 600/4.0 on my 7D II:
But I also shot my Canon 400/5.6L adapted onto my Leica SL2. This was the real reason I went, I wanted to see what working birds with the SL2 was like.
To be honest it's been awhile (few months) since I shot with the big lenses and my technique was sucking with both setups. I'm hoping to go back out tomorrow to practice more. The SL2 shots were the real disappointment. I was using IBIS with a generic 400mm lens profile yet most images came out soft. I want to shoot again with IBIS off to see if it was causing issues. My shutter speeds were high enough that I shouldn't need the IBIS.
I still use the EF 17-40,EF 70-200 III, 20+ years old EF 400 5.6 L, EF 600 F4 II and both my 1.4 III and 2x III EF convertors !!
I use them with R5 mark II and R6 mark II , It works great
I grew up near Dairy Farm. I remember the cows getting out and being in our front yard once.
I also went in the bull barn once. I called one big bull an ugly SOB and he snorted and came hustling towards the pen gate, right towards me. I was maybe 14. I never went back in that barn.😂

Yeah buddy! He watched me the entire time I was in the pasture. This was before we became "friends".
He snorted a few times also!
Thanks!

I grew up in Iowa then we moved to Mary-land in 1958. The town was very small and loaded with cattle, crops...and all things "farming and agriculture".
I got a Boy Scout merit badge for "Animal Husbandry". I learned how to "approach" farm animals. Not that it worked all the time but I do give them much latitude!
Now "Zeus" is another matter! He was a brawler! My neighbor had to isolate him in the fenced area you see in the frame. He did NOT like other males and was very selective in his choice of females!
I was back out this morning shooting my EF 600/4.0 on my 7D MK II. Basically I was out to test a new Sigma 150-600 lens on my Leica SL2 but I also shot the Canon gear as a comparison. Only had a small window of real light today so I didn't really get to do all the testing I wanted.
