Great. So I should be stocking up on knurl in anticipation of coming shortages?
Any guesses on when pre-orders start showing up before release of the Z and E variants?
No, I don't have any insight. I might have read somewhere that they were going to be released mid December, not sure if I heard that from Juha (don't think so...) or read it somewhere. I'm not aware of any official guidance.
Usually Cosina's new lens releases in December have been released in the first half of the month so I was speculating / guessing that E-mount version might come out before 15th, but I have no info about the VM delivery schedule in U.S. I think Fred mentioned that some VM stocks would be expected in U.S. before end of November though. Z-mount version is planned to come out in January (no info about the date).

This is basically what Nikon Rumors reported - I'm not sure if that was from the Cosina press release or some other source. Some British retailer (Wex?) is taking pre-orders but I've seen anything from US sites.
And cost is still a question, especially in our tariff/no tariff/ some tariff/ old tariff/ new tariff/ new tariff same as the old tariff skewed country.

Cosina announced the Sony E and Nikon Z versions on 11/14 with E release coming in December and Z in January. They'll announce the specific release dates later. Those release schedules are for Japan, but other markets usually start around the same time.
In Japan the mirrorless versions are priced slightly higher than VM version of but in U.S. there has been a tendency for VM pricing to be a bit higher than E-mount and Z-mount versions of same lenses.
Great news! It looks like a new Voigtlander 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthar M-mount is shipping from CameraQuest. If you pre-ordered it, your copy could arrive very soon.
In a few days, I will be receiving the 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthar "E-mount" version and will be doing a comparison review.
We already know the M and E-mount versions share the exact same optical design, 8 groups with 12 elements including two double aspherical elements. The E-mount version is simply tuned for the thicker Sony sensor stack. Both versions keep the same 12-blade aperture system, the same minimum aperture of f/16, and the same 49mm filter thread.
The differences show up in the mount and the barrel style and dimensions. The M version is 55.6 by 50mm, the E-mount is 62.6 by 58.8mm, so the E-mount comes in about 9mm longer, which is roughly the size of an M to E adapter. Since it's built for a mirrorless system with an EVF, the E-mount focuses much closer at 0.28m compared to 0.5m on the M-mount. It also weighs about 60g more.
I'm not sure what the E-mount price will be, but the M-mount sits at $1,149 right now. In my view that is a steal for what this lens delivers.
In Tokyo the VM version is now back in stock at Map Camera (it's already backordered again at Fujiya Camera, after being available there for a couple of days last week). Overall availability seems to be still spotty but it seems to be gradually coming back in stock in more stores. https://www.mapcamera.com/item/4530076132917
I'm hoping the E-mount version will get an official release date announcement soon (maybe tomorrow?) and would get released in the 1st half of December, but that remains to be seen. My personal guess is that it might be released on 12/12 or 12/10 as most of Cosina's December releases have historically come out in the first half of December and it doesn't make as much sense to release new products later in the month due to Christmas and New Year holiday season etc. Year end bonuses also get typically paid on 12/10 in Japan.
Looking forward to Fred's review of the E-mount version!

Hopefully it will still be in stock in a few weeks when I am there, probably not though.

Hi Juha,
I have the Voigtlander 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthat "E-mount" with me and will test it on a Sony 42 MP body soon. I expect performance to look similar to what I see on the M, although I will run a resolution comparison using M mount on the Leica M10-R and E mount on the A7R II.
