I have a Nissan GT-R that is wrapped with green/gold color shift PPF (further demonstrating my commitment to green) and the main occasions I use my camera at are car meets and shows. I see a LOT of Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fuji gear with photographers at events... The only time I have seen other Leicas at these meets/shows have been the Porsche focused events. I like to show up in the GT-R and crash the Porsche events or if it is strictly Porsche only I bring my widebody Cayenne that also upsets some of the purists

During a visit the Leica Store in NYC also told me that they sometimes will collab with the local Porsche club to do events for car photography on their street. A true celebration of German engineering.

Porsche and Leica seem like a good match. I have enjoyed both but never at the same time.

No safari green, but FWIW related to Porsche, this photographer has published books about the Porsche communities in LA and Miami:

Mostly B&W, and mostly film (Hasselblad H and Leica M & R)

Porsche like Leica likes it special editions, and there fan groups, history etc…… since my special addition is a 2012 Cayman, black edition 250 units sold in the US, being 2012 I have no idea how many still on the road my local dealer has never seen another other than mine. Of course mine goes nicely with a black chrome film leica, or my new M11 EV1 add in a nice black apo Leica lens we are talking camera/ car fashion stealth or is it old guy toys, or both. My porsche like my older leica cameras is appreciating in value each year. There was a youtube I saw a while ago of leica being a camera porsche……. seems about right. Difference is I have room for several Leicas, but space for only one Porsche…….

I'm a sucker for cars with British green paint, magnesium looking gold/bronze wheels! My buddy just picked up a blue R34 GT-R that is stunning, minus the 90's Sentra looking interior 😬
I usually take a camera and/or drone on picturesque drives. This one was mostly a meet up with too many people, including many hipsters and influencers.

I love BRG but figure I'll save it for another car I pick up some time down the road since it looks more at home on a lot of Euros. And I do love bronze wheels; I lucked out with a special edition that came with bronze wheels. Would love an R34, but will probably end up with an R32 first. I have seen a couple R34's with upgraded interior but the majority of people leave it stock for value reasons.

I take a camera with me most of the time I am out of the house, but usually get caught up talking to people and end up taking less pictures than I planned. I also relied on live view heavily and missed focus a lot so I have been trying to get better at actually using the rangefinder as intended. Pic related as it was taken with my M11-P and focus was semi-decent haha.

How closely does the green of the LLL 35/2 8-Element Safari match the M11-P Safari body?

close not perfect...

have this and the green CS 50/3.5 in green, not springing for the green Leicas I expect that are redundant to others I have

I did spring for green silk strap that I like, didn't do green leica leather half case- like black contrast, I do sometimes put all in a green Domke FX5b bag and wear my green Explorers club hat (what else would I wear with "safari"- all of which maybe carries the theme far enough. Of course if I had a Brit green sports car.. just maybe, that would be the ticket for a road trip, still regret the vintage one Brit racing green / tan leather one I passed up at Barrett Jackson years ago that went too cheap - no room in garage, but still I could have transported my safari camera in it,

Thanks for the picture! Of all the third-party lenses with an olive green finish, the Voigtlander 50/3.5 APO-Lanthar, in my opinion, comes the closest.

I was checking the price of the new Leica Safari lenses, and they're asking $7,300 plus tax for the 35/1.4 Lux. That's absolutely insane! Thankfully I love my Leica 35/1.4 Lux FLE in black with the square hood.

The CS is not only green but its silver works so well with the safari camera as well- I got mine because of your post, and aside from that it is a great lens, it also looks great on the camera. For the "50" leica guys that I am one of, it is perfect.

I think so as well... so not springing for them, I already have 50 black apo that was open box and actually cheaper than the green 50 summicron is now, so aside from fashion I cannot think of a reason to get a green 50 summicron. I still do not understand why they cancelled the safari M11P and at the same time brought out the three safari lenses, seems odd to me unless the M12 or M11 EV1 is getting the safari treatment. Even then the lenses came out maybe year or more too early and are extremely expensive for what they are.....

If I want to be vintage fashion classy the CS 50/3.5 does it for me , and aside from a stop or so it is a great lens.

I bought the 35/1.4 Safari while in Tokyo at the beginning of the year before they were readily available here in the states and the solid conversion rate on the yen was a big reason I decided to pick it up even though I had the FLE II in silver already (which works great on the Safari body). Purely a fashion choice but the M11-P is the most fun I've had shooting so to me it was worth it.

With the 50 1.4 I sprung for it because the price was going up and I get discounts at various retailers through work which knocked another ~$500 off the price pre- March increases. I have the Safari 50 Summicron but I did not have any 50 Summilux and I know it's a favorite (across all the variations) for a lot of people so I figured this was a good one to pick up.

I have the first limited version of the Safari 28/2 and I rarely shoot 28mm so the upgrade to close focus wasn't worth it to me. If they had released a Summilux version I very well might have bought one.

I also have a feeling that these lenses will become 'limited' in their own way despite not being listed as such, as aside from future EV1/M12 versions the demand for green M-glass has to be low due to a small user base of Safari editions when compared to their other colors. And seeing as how the M11-P Safari was discontinued pretty quickly, I'm willing to bet the Safari lenses are not long for production.

I'm also irrationally thinking of sending my Voigtlander 40/1.2 to someone to paint green but the wait times are insane these days...

that is a collection ! I saw the green set of older near or were NOS safari at the Leica auction last fall, I think it went for north of 15K$, more than I thought, so you likely made a good investment.

I believe that I would prefer green Safari paint, more so than shiny black lacquer. The accounting cells in my brain are telling me that I should not be looking through this discussion and images.

It matches better than the photo someone else just posted. Lighting has to be just right or a mobile phone will exaggerate the color differences.

Yeah, the Voightlander is even closer than the Leica Safari lenses, which to me seem ever so slightly darker than the M Safari bodies.
