Nice pics! So is the 28mm Simera really having warmer cast in the rendering vs the Nokton?

Late to the party, but I was noticing this also.

Hey everyone, I hope this is ok but just wanted to mention I got a copy of this lens recently from an ebay seller named "Cargo Largo" I think they were selling it for 580 or so, I offered 500 they countered with 535, I accepted and got it for $550 after shipping aprx 200 bucks cheaper than retail. It came yesterday, so far so good on my M240. Was listed as new in box, and came fully plastic wrapped with all accessories and papers so seems to be legit. Only taken cat photos so far but no issues currently and it is the Type 2 version with the focus tab. Last I checked they still had 5 in stock.

I don't really see the Simera coatings producing warmer images compared to the Voigtlander Nokton in these side-by-side comparisons:

well I was going to wait for the eventual chipped version (assuming it is coming) for my Zf but BH had an open box 28mm simera for $330 that I had a hard time turning down.

I have never had a fast 28mm (all of my 28mm experience is with the GR) so I am looking forward to testing this.

Anyone tried this one on a Fuji aps-c?

I don't have an adaptor for m to x but the lens should be arriving...sometime. Would be like a 42mm or so.

The adaptor isn't expensive, was thinking the Urth one. Might a be a bit too big with the adaptor for the xe5.

I had the native Fuji X mount version on my X-T5 and it's a really fun lens to use. I bought it primarily because of the focus falloff (I guess that's what it would be called?) and how it gives a "3D effect" to subjects shot at closer focusing distances. It *almost* renders like the Mitakon 65 does on the GFX system, just not nearly as severe, if you will. I first saw the 28mm and 35mm on social media on the Zf and fell in love with that.

The only "issue" I have with the lens is having not bought it brand new. I bought it more or less as an open box (unofficially) from someone and didn't notice until having it for a month and a half, having barely been able to use it, that it won't focus to infinity until I stop down to ~f/4-5.6...ish.

I contacted Thypoch and they basically said sucks to suck, here's some placed that could adjust focus. I was quoted around $175 to fix it, which really sucks. I've seen a handful of other people, via Threads, that had the same issue with the 28mm on Fuji, but thankfully they bought it first hand and had just returned it for a new copy, which I unfortunately can't do.

Aside from that, the experience of using the lens is fantastic.

It seems there are three versions of this lens for M-mount in the wild:
- Original version with infinity lock and steel ring
- Focus tab version with steel ring
- Focus tab version without steel ring

I ordered a "focus tab version" in black and it has the steel ring but if you look at the "Type II" version with focus tab on B&H it does not have the steel ring.

Does anyone else's copy of the 28mm Simera make a rustling noise when focusing? I'm curious if this is normal on all copies.

p.7 #9 · Thypoch Simera 28mm f/1.4 ASPH. Type II Review

Some of you might be aware some dude (me) went from Thypoch Simera 28mm to the 28/1.4 Summilux M. The reason I did was due to upgrading M body but on the M10-P, I really didn't like it as much as when it was paired with M9.

Fast forward to recently I managed to fine tune my preset and finally, I'm seeing basically same rendering as it did, and falling in love with the Thypoch again. Something about the way it render colors, I thought the lux having higher saturation but the Thypoch actually rendered the color differently, in a way the lux felt more life-like, more opaque if you will, while the Thypoch has more glow to it. I thought it was the M9 unique tonality, but turned out to be the lens! What's really great about the Thypoch is the rounded and smooth tonal transitions, which the lux was lacking...

Here are both M9 and M10-P

I went through the review again paying attention to one thing. Fred, to my eye when the Simera is set to infinity the DOF seems to me to be better in the corner near to camera than the CS 1.4. I really like the 1.4 28 Nokton it is a goto landscaper for me when light is a bit dim like in Alaska. The posts are downscaled, am I correct in my assessment that the Simera has a better in focus DOF for near field when landscaping for infinity ? My CS 1.4 is most often displaced by the apo Lanthar when light is great, the lens to beat, except when weight challenged and light is great then it is 2.8 color skoper.

While I'm not Fred, I'd say the simera render very different to the Nokton 28/1.5 (which the rendering is so close to that of 28 summilux M which I had good dea of experiences with), and one should take into consideration about the draw character alongside the optical performances.

My own take was that there are a lot to love about the summilux but ultimately, I still like the artistic color rendering way more. If you like how the Nokton rendered chances is that you'll also need to deal with the different character from the simera.

Rendering of this lens really is special for a fast wide angle. Bokeh is smooth but given the FOV, the context of the background will always be there to document the story.

King of fruits! Now I'm back to shooting with this lens I really appreciate the colors it renders and tonal separation. So much so now I'm seriously considering selling my 28mm Summilux, but they say never sell a Leica lens...

Here are a couple of night shots from a recent trip to Bergen, Norway. All wide open on the A7RV. I was happy with these.
