Interesting that it appears to have that switch (possibly serving a different function) which wasn't visible in the earlier leaked image.
Yeah, I noticed that too ... but, I went as far as to count the "diamonds" above the switch, and it might be that the earlier picture is angled so the lens is blocking the switch. +1 for different function potential. Trying to noodle what would be a good use case for it. I'm thinking view magnification (kinda what the frame lines are framing), or
But, the more I look at the one, the more I think it is a mockup. Lighting shadows seem softer under the front view, and (not sure) the shadow under the back view seems more acute.
Either way ... we'll soon be seeing the real deal, along with answers to several questions.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a huge sucker for the dropped edge on the top plate where the viewfinder is (M9, M262, M10, M11). And when they got rid of it in the M240 series, Leica bodies just didn't appeal to me. There's something sexy about that dropped edge.
Also, how the M bodies have a front edge from the FR patch to the viewfinder that is not flushed with the leatherette, ugh, yes!
This body/rendering/design, feels too flat for me.

Another leaked image confirms a patch window, likely serving as a focusing aid. Still feels strange seeing a Leica M with no front viewfinder window.
It is a new extra control switch now. I think mainly keeping look consistant. Leica needs this to be considered a legitimate M variant. Not a Q variant. Q is an AF camera system at a lower price point. It has many competitors, the M line functionaly none.
If there's other quality of life updates, I'll probably try it designate it for telephoto and ultra dim environments where my RF abilities drop off in consistency.
If the patch is intact, does that also mean the coupling will still exist as well?
Just an idea due to my experience with sound equipment : might the cancellation of the US launch party be due to a patent problem ? That might end in a US only body with reduced functionality unless a deal can be done with the patent holder.

My best information is that there is compliance issue as follows:
"The FCC has a delay in the process of getting the website updated so a consumer can reference the FCC clearance on the camera itself.
Leica USA cannot sell a camera if the site isn’t updated or it’s a felony. They are holding themselves back from allowing them to be sold to avoid that. They’ve shipped, the stores already have them. "
Seems to be a simple procedural issue caused by the Government shutdown. It should be solved shortly.
I am scheduled to get time to play with one today. So many questions should be answered soon.

Isn't the patch window for estimating the f-stop used and nothing more?
Or are you suggesting it will now be used for something other than estimating the f-stop for this M variant?
First impressions only because I don't get my loaner to try for another two hours. But I can answer some questions.
It is noticeably lighter than my Silver M11 and a black one. Very nice.
The EVF is very nice. Basically the same 5.6 million Dot as a Q3. No special focus aids like simulated RF patch or any kind of subject or eye recognition/tracking. If you like the manual focus experience of a SL or Q you will also like this one. So far seems smooth fast and responsive. Reserving full judgment on that untill my longer test drive later this afternoon.
Leica is going to some effort not to have this camera perceived as part of either the M or Q lines. Rather a new line of Leica cameras. I will keep an open mind on this. I am curious how that will play in the market.
