Looking forward to seeing seeing actual results from night street shots from those of you who already have it in your hands 👍

I’ll take a picture, but overhead view next to the Q2, when neither have a hood, I was VERY SURPRISED the Summilux lens isn’t crazy bigger / longer. Another thing I didn’t really see fair size comparisons in reviews I saw.

The deal is the GFXRF is taller and wider and the Q2/3 is longer so in person ….. kind of evens out to me. Yes the specs told us this, but it’s always different in the hand.

Don’t get me wrong the GFXRF lens is compact. I just thought there would be a SIGNIFICANT difference (for me) in overall size.

This reinforces why normal buyers may be better off waiting a bit to purchase a brand new first-to-the-market product.

There are good, ethical, serious “previewers” out there, but in the present climate not all of them meet that standard.

1. Most have products for only hours or a few days — time to see the basics, but they will miss or misconstrue things.

2. Influencers compete for attention. Quiet, thoughtful commentary doesn't break through and get noticed. It is tempting to be louder, hype more, and turn the dial to 11.

3. It is tempting to please the party loaning the gear, in hopes that the relationship continues. Anyone who has been in this situation (I have) understands this dynamic.

4. Affiliate sales revenue and monetization by having a lot of followers make tis work financially. While not everyone succumbs, potential conflicts of interest exist. (And savvy first-release buyers can resell for more than they paid.)

I am NOT saying “all youtube reviews are bad” or that everyone is unethical. Just be aware of this context.

In some cases it can make sense to buy right away: if you need the product now, if you have been waiting for it for a long time, if it is an update to a solid product, or if money is no object and you are willing to take chances. For most buyers of most brand new products it makes sense to see what happens after the product has been in the hands of regular photographers for weeks or even months.

I assume the joystick sucks in the usual Fuji Gfx joystick way, that's why nobody mentioned it. I find it weird that Fuji doesn't include the D-pad on most Gfx models while it does on the X-T models. I much prefer using the D-pad to joystick and even prefer the X-T5 joystick shape to the Gfx100S one.

I got my GFX100RF yesterday. Better than I expected but still not sure if it's a long-term keeper over my Q3 43mm APO and X100VI but here are my initial thoughts:

Pros:
1. Ergonomic: Much better than the X100VI or Q3 series for me. Fits in the hand well without the need for any half cases or grips. The joystick and controls are fine - not amazing but not bad to me.

2. Daylight image quality: Very good - on par with the Q3 43mm APO - I wouldn't pick one over the other based on lens quality from my initial shots. I'd say it's better than the Q3 28mm and X100VI in terms of level of detail. Bokeh is decent too. A lot of the early review shots didn't really do this camera justice even though they were in Prague.

I think overall I still prefer the Q3 43mm image quality and lens since it's sharp from F2 and delivers more subject separation but nothing wrong on image quality on the GFX100RF.

3. Size: Great form factor as long as you don't use the filter adapter. The X100VI is still noticeably more compact.

4. Industrial design: Looks nice as long as you don't use the filter adapter.

5. Field of view: I find the 28mm equivalent field of view with the ability to crop to 50mm in APS-C equivalent to be very useful - better than starting at 35mm or 43mm on a fixed prime lens camera.

Cons:
1. Lowlight image quality: This lens just doesn't have a large aperture that the larger sensor doesn't fully make up for it. You can certainly denoise the photos but I think you can get cleaner images by using a full frame camera. No IBIS and slow lens is a real negative for any potential buyers to consider. I saw much higher ISO values at the same shutter speed when I compared it against the X100VI and Q3 43mm wide open.

2. lens size with filter thread adapter: The lens is nicely sized however once you add on the filter thread adapter to properly weather seal it, it's almost the same size as the Leica Q3 lens barrel. It's slightly smaller but not enough to make a difference. The filter adapter is very deep for some reason - I hope someone eventually makes a thinner filter adapter for this camera.

Average
1. Video: I don't think most people here care about it but the video is decent. I think this is where no IBIS hurts but the digital stabilization isn't as bad as I expected as long as you know how to manage the shutter speed and again shoot in daylight. Don't think it's better than a X100VI since the footage is line skipped based on what I read and visually it seems a bit worse if you stare at it long enough.

2. Video stabilization: As I mentioned the digital stabilization is better than I expected and I'll note better than the Q3 43mm with optical image stabilization in my opinion.

3. AF - overall AF is fine - I don't think it's better than the X100VI or the Q3 43mm. Video AF is better than the Q3 43mm though - that might be due to lens AF in the Leica.

I think the GFX100RF is great if you lean towards day light photography scenarios. The X100VI is the better carry around camera due to size. The Q3 43mm APO if you like to take sharp pictures of people and want subject isolation.

Still not sure what I'll keep personally but thought I'd share my thoughts.

Those ISO 12,800 shots are MUSH. Not everyone has such a low bar for acceptable quality. I know nothing about how DPR uploads get compressed, though.

Is it possible to see your chosen aspect ratio in image playback if you shoot RAW or RAW+JPEG? So far, I haven't found a way to see it unless I shoot JPEG only, which seems like a bug.

I've only had a chance to form very initial impressions so far, but a few things I noted:
* the camera truly does feel like a bigger X100 as many reviewers have noted
* I find it really comfortable to hold and would rank it higher than my Q3 in that regard, which requires a thumbs up or grip
* the AF so far, though I haven't used it much, is at least as fast as the Q3 and face detection is actually usable (unlike the Q3)
* the camera defaults to shooting uncompressed 16 bit images... maybe the cause of some of the performance and file size complaints from early reviewers
* auto ISO is still capped at 12800 – bummer – but not sure I'd shoot it much higher than that anyway
* I will enjoy the aspect ratio dial but I agree some of the options are so similar as to feel redundant — 17:6 and 7:6 I'm looking at you

Yes, you can see the image with the chosen aspect ratio if you are shooting JPEG as well. With raw + JPEG you may need to save the JPEGF on the same card as the raw.

The default is also JPEG only. First thing to do it to switch to raw + JPEG, lossless, and 14-bits.

The shutter button is also nothing to be proud of. It is still a nice camera, but nowhere near the mechanical quality of Leica or Hasselblad.

I agree with @RoamingScott — if those are representative of typical night shots, then it’s not going to be a viable street or even travel cam fir me.

I mentioned the GFXRF vs Q/1/2/3 comparison of the length of the lenses ... to me, it's not a dramatic difference in person once you compare apples to apples (no filters, no hoods). Yes, the Fuji is more compact ... but all the reviewers I saw compare these two said the Fuji was MUCH MORE compact. I disagree, to the point that honestly I wouldn't choose the Fuji over the Leica just for this point if going to do street or traveling etc.

Also, I figured out how to get rid of that weird eyeball looking thing on the front right. Who needs to shoot in the dark anyways!

How would you describe / differentiate it from the M vs. SL vs. X1D / X2D shutter button?

The shutter button moves too much. First, there is a downward movement or looseness before you start pressing the shutter. Then there is a standard movement to half and then full press. I guess it is what it is.

A soft touch shutter button is basically required on Fuji cameras that have a threaded shutter. This is not new information.
